It is So Refreshing to Image Coins Raw - Guess the Grade - Toned Kennedy - Grade Revealed - My Image

PCGS graded it out at MS65.

First Picture is Mine. Below it is PCGS's.

I bought two mint sets at the show in the same old blue holder. The two Kennedy halves are toned along with one quarter and both dimes. One dime is very deeply toned with banded rainbows of emerald green, blue, magenta and gold.

Here is why it is much better to image coins raw. Sorry dial-uppers. Both of these images were taken raw.

Here are images of the coins in the holder.

Gorgeous coin and great photo, but a little oversharpened for my taste - my WAG grade is MS 63...Mike

Sharpen tool was used for the resize. Original pic of just the obverse was > 6MB.

Radius 0.5, Threshold 1, Amount 47. That is the typical application I use when resizing the pic from the large raw format.

Edited to change Radius 5 to Radius 0.5.

I would lower the radius (~1-2) and increase the threshold (~10) -- the result would be a bit smoother -- but that is just my taste. In fact, I would probably not sharpen the resized photo at all, and just sharpen the original then resize as I believe it gives superior results. Regardless, it is a great photo, as I'm sure you know. image Take care...Mike

I actually should have said. 0.5 (sorry) I never go over 1 because that just makes it into a big mess. I default at 0.4 but this one needed 0.5.

The threshold at 5+ will not show any measurable amount of sharpening when I'm just using it to touch up after a resize.

If you want a nice even contrast fix you can always try an unsharp mask at 20-75-0

Sounds like a discussion inside flight control room no. 1 at Cape Canaveral. I like the pictures.

    1964 (P) Kennedey would grade MS64. Just a guess.

Nice set of toned modern day coins Poorguy...hard to come by with natural colors like that.

The HUGE image of the Kennedy will go 64 (banner through beak is a bit weak) but the toning more than makes up for that loss.

    Thanks for sharing.

They are currently on their way to PCGS for grading and to have Phil photograph them. image I would like to see how my image compares with TrueView since I was able to image the coin raw just as Phil will be doing. They went via economy so check back in a couple of months to see what they graded. Thanks for all of the compliments. image

Actually, I have two Kennedys out of that set. The other graded MS64 and has bands of color on the reverse. Want that one instead?
