<< <i>Last year one of the 1878 fanatics got an MS-63 VAM-14.11 Anybody find anything cool this year?

Rob:
Fun is the category. I got a BU 1882 O/S VAM 5 out of a dealer's 'junk' box for $ 18. That was a nice pick. I will say that many, many of the dealers seemed interested in VAMs for the first time at a major show I have attended. Word is getting out.

Proud recipient of YOU SUCK more than once and less than 100 times.
Wasn't there, but I got some nice ones tonight. Teletrade: a gem 1886 V-1C (3+2), an 1896 V-19 (MPD 8) in P64, the 1904-O V-28A (trigger G) in 65PL.......Heritage possible 84-O V-35 in P65 and an incredible new find that I'll show when it arrives.
While its not a Morgan, I did find an interesting and conditionally rare Trade Dollar variety. 1878-S DDR with the doubling strongest on the arrowtips and the '420' numbering. As near as I can determine this one is tied for the finest known graded. NGC shows one other graded MS62. PCGS doesn't attribute the DDR to my knowledge. It is not attributed in the NGC slab yet, but I will be packaging it up and sending it in to get it correctly identified. If anyone knows of a better coin, slabbed or unslabbed in a private collection, I would like to hear more about it.
Brian Raines found an 1889-O VAM 20A (Weak E Reverse) that I would call nice AU58. The best I could come up with was a slider 1878-S VAM 18 "Spaghetti Wing."

Not gonna get rich on it (since I won't sell it anyhow) but reminded me of VAM hunting a decade ago.
