<< <i>Great thread! So that's 24 $100 Plats total so far not including those unaccounted for that were missed.

I also decided to only track from 1 January on... I figure at this time, enough people already had the Plats and the initial rush might have died down a bit... I'll keep track of the auctions best I can, you can run teh numbers all you would like from that data.
Remember, it's only PCGS (Since we are here on PCGS) I did notice that the NGC were selling a few hundred dollars less. I also decided to not count the "First Strike" designation... though I probably should have... Again, teh links are there for all to see.
Did I fall asleep? When did the UNC get the reverse of the proof? Now I think I know what all of the hoopla is about, should have bought some when I had a chance.
<< <i>Did I fall asleep? When did the UNC get the reverse of the proof? Now I think I know what all of the hoopla is about, should have bought some when I had a chance. >>
I know I fell for it, thankfully only tracking them and not buying them... I wouldn't say these people are being sneaky, we as buyers just need to read everything and make sure the item we bid on is the item we want.
<< <i>Don't BIN's give a false picture if they don't sell? >>
Yes, but they can also give a false picture of "worth" if the seller sets the BIN at below the "going rate" (and probably sells very quickly). Results from a true auction are probably the best determiner of what these are truly worth on the open market. Looks like the going rate is about $2400 for all but the certified 70s.

Indeed nobody's being sneaky. We can't expect seller of 2006 non-W coins to quit selling. The ease of confusion is even worse for gold. Search for 2006 Gold and you'll get about half W mintmarks. I generally spell out West Point in my auctions to make it clear.
Just wait until all the weak holders, AKA flippers, unload. You haven't seen anything yet as the collectors battle over the few coins that will be available. I still believe that few owners of the 4 coin sets will be willing to split up their sets.

There is NO Reverse Proof Plat Unc.
The "W" Unc got the same reverse as the "W" Proof. It's a 3-year mini series of Legislative, Judicial, and Executive Branch issues. There is no Reverse Proof Platinum, yet.
There was some talk of a 2007 3-coin Reverse Proof Anniversary Set consisting of all 1/2 oz'ers - in Silver, Gold and Platinum. This is worth tracking if it materializes.

I will be holding my MS70FS $100 Statue of Liberty for a long time.
I can wait for the real reward....plus it's my only platinum coin, I would like to enjoy it for a few years.

Also......as of 8:46pm tonight (Sunday) I noticed that auction prices for a PCGS MS69, Mint Sealed Box, and Open Box Raw $100 plats are all running head to head almost dead even!
It will be interesting to see which one sells for more than the others.

Only 208 unc 2006_W pcs. graded so far.
Hopefully the expert Plat guys(mainly mrpaeso) on this forum will dicipher these low numbers so far.
I've been running an excell spreadsheet tracking all ebay sales of all the plats, in all of their various permutations, since the first one sold on December 17 (am also doing the same with the fractional gold and 4 pc golds, and mint sealded Judas Boxes). As of this posting, there have been 29 1oz plats actually sold (excluding the 55 sold in 4 coin sets).
If anyone wants a copy of this spreadsheet, PM me your email address.
Given that PCGS is grading almost twice as many MS70s as MS69s (I don't know of any other series where this is the case), is there too much of a premium being paid for MS70s? Is it better to buy now at this premium or wait a few weeks to see if they come down? Or will interest in the series in general increase and thus command higher prices in a few weeks?
<< <i>I've been running an excell spreadsheet tracking all ebay sales of all the plats >>
Awesome spreadsheet Bill! Very impressive and comprehensive. This is an excellent tool for watching market values and statistics on these. Nice job! Thanks.
Yesterday I watched Coin Vault over the Internet and they were selling the 1/10 oz legislative platinum uncirculated in MS69 for $1199.95. That's eleven hundred and ninety-nine dollars and ninety five cents.
That's the only legislative 2006 W uncirculate they had. Then they went on to the 2007 platinum bullion coins.
Anyone can make a difference, but most people probably shouldn't. -- Marge Simpson
Observations on the spreadsheet (great job Bill!) --
The unopened boxes of ten sets of ASE 3-coin sets ("Judas Boxes" ) were consistently above $2500 until about Dec 20. Since then, only four out of about 140 boxes has equaled or exceeded $2500. The average for the last week looks to be about $2300, or about $50 or so higher than the average in the last week of December.
Sealed plat set average sales are about $170 higher than those of opened sets. On the other hand, after over a half-dozen sales of each, it appears that opened $100 coins are doing about $75 better than sealed $100 coins. (PCGS 70 coins add about 50%, though the 70 sets do about two-thirds or more better than opened and sealed sets.)
Holy smokes Bill, I don't know how you track so many auctions... I have an Excel worksheet too, I'm trying to get it on line so everyone can see it. It's much easier to manage in excel.
Looks like there's just one 69FS $100 on the spreadsheet so far. At $2250, it comes in about the same as raw and opened averages. (And somebody did drop $3000 on an opened $100, skewing that average upward.)
On the other hand, the majority of PCGS-graded $100 coins have received 70s!... so maybe a 69 is nothing special at all.
Everyone that has Excel, take this link and place it in your link above, download it or look at it from where it's at, but please don't change it on line (Not sure if you can do that...lol)
Tomorrow I'll figure out how those that do not have excel can look at it.
PCGD FS MS69 sells for less than a raw, unopened box. This is not so unusual given the population reports. I would take my chances on the unsealed box scoring an MS70.
Thanks, I have 1 more sealed set left. I was going to keep them until i saw that one sell for $2800. With PCGS changing the rules on first strike so that as long as the ship date was before the 11th it was good to go for essentially ever on first strike, the sealed sets did not turn into pumpkins. With a 2:1 ration of MS70 vs 69, even at that price there is a good chance for a nice score.
For the 1 oz., I got (1) MS70, (9) MS69 with the remaining (6) 1 oz. waiting for results.
AS of yesterday - 01-15-2007:
196/413 - about 47% of the 1oz. graded MS70 at PCGS 140/231 - about 60% of the 1oz. graded MS70 at NGC --->OVERALL 336/644 or 52% of 25% OF THE TOTAL MINTAGE Graded at MS70.
Considering the Unc planchetts are the same planchetts used for the 2006 Proof's, I am beyond being fairly pissed-off
Florida Bill's Spread sheet reveals a significantly better return (20%) for a NGC MS70 over a PCGS MS69 FS.
I might just try a cheap experiment and crack 1/2 of them and send them Raw across the street, and then send the balance in PCGS slabs and see what NGC's graders think.
_____________ FWIW, I got (10) individual 1 oz., and (6) 1 oz. in sets, however I mixed them up into two separate submittals. The other (18) Plat Fractionals won't be out for another 10 days, so that will be interesting to see what happens.
(hmmm...something just hit me, what if the Unc's planchetts were actually left over 2005 Proof planchetts?... but that's another thread)
