Grading modern quarters from new rolls

I've been cherry picking lots of rolls of the new quarters for errors or quality.

When is a new quarter nice enough to submit?

Is there some website that would have pictures of 65,66,67,68 that you could use to learn this?

Mostly I've been saving any that basicall NO marks on them under magnification. I have a several but I'm not sure when enough is enough.

How perfect should I set my standards for submission?

Thanks guys.

i would say the new quarters are not worth sending in unless they grade 67 and higher. i don`t know of a website with pics to compare yours. if they have literally no hits or marks get enough together for a submission and send them in. this will give you experience in how far off the mark you are. it takes time to get an eye for it.

Well, that is the current plan. I have about a dozen that I have found in some 60 rolls that I'm sending in. I just thought I'd check for other resources prior to making the plunge. I have another dozen or more that have very minor marks. I'm sending in a couple of these just to see what they get.

I get my rolls from my local bank. I just asked for the new statehood quarters and they say "how many do you want".

I buy them $200 at a time...then go through them until my bones ache...but its relaxing.

What years and states do you have for submission ? That might help to know. Perhaps fellow forumites could post pictures of some graded coins to assist you in determining grades.
I've picked the best of OBW rolls and haven't gotten any coins over MS 66. image

I've just started doing statehood quarters with North and South dakota. Not very exciting...but its a start.

I also purchased some OBW rolls of lincolns but wasn't very impressed. None of them were well-struck.

I found a lot more good ND than I have SD. So far they are all D mint.

Found a few errors...mostly just machine doubling.

    Keeps me busy

Speaking from some level of experience here, you're definately shooting for 68s. 67s will pay for your grading fees, but the easy 65s and 66s are a waste. Also, keeping in mind to looking for strike quality all around (grease in the die gets annoying) and planchet quality, as the more beat up blanks can make some ugly coins in the end, even if they haven' been dinged and scratched. Watch out for a variety of stains and milk spots. South Dakota D has some issues with this. I too have found that ND Ds have been in better shape, which unfortunately will probably end in lower prices for 67s/68s. Some banks in my area have the state quarters in plastic roll wraps and these are far inferior to the nice fresh paper rolls.

    Happy Hunting.

Finally, a topic I can relate to (again).
