Platinum dust!

Saw the thread about the gold dust on the capsules the other day. Was inspecting my Plats today and saw what I thought was a couple of tiny gouges in a 1oz. I almost shat myself. I was PISSED!

Broke out the loupe and lo and behold, it wasn't a gouge, but it was Plat dust on the outside of the capsule - pretty cool.

Cool, maybe it's the Mints way of saying sorry for the bad products in the past... Or, maybe it's a Christmas bonus? Maybe a Bonus for the grading service as they blow off all the dust before they slab them image

    Who know thanks for sharing,
    Ray
  • I wouldn't said them back for replacement after reading all the other posts from guys who didn't get any ;>
  • BTW, all (6) of the $50 Plats I got in my (6) sets are 'loose' and move side to side just a bit to annoy the heck out of me.

Why would I do that? The specks are on the outside of the capsule. Nothing else wrong with coins or believe me, you would have heard about it.

Everyone save their dust and we'll put it all in a vial and pass it around like the Stanley Cup.

Nice machine doubling on the motto BTW.

I'd ask for your dust but I think I'm allergic to platinum dust which is probably why I never buy em!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Now that you mention it, look at the top of the Y, is that a second rim? What about under the left cleff) what is that called at the top of the Y, is that a bump?

With only 120 posts, I don't know you well enough to know that. That's why there are these things called "emoticons"

Looks like there is a little around the edge of the capsule too. There was so much on mine I was worried the grader might think damage. Its hard to get off because you have to keep washing your hands or it keeps going back on thereimage-----------BigE

No man...your mess was on the outside, right? My coins looked great under a 5x...I think it must stick to the packers' hands and then gets transferred about.

Yes newb, on the outside, but it fooled me more than once---------BigE

I think they are using cotton gloves and the specks are coming off the rims, because they are for the most part very large--BigE

You should really check. The U and S in "TRUST" sure look doubled to me. The U could be an artifact, but the way the S is, I don't think that's just from the image...
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

  • The $10 AGEs came in little blue pouches which "shed" onto the capsules - is the dust on the plats the same color as the pouch?

No, the 4pc comes in a box - but the interior has silver colored silkscreening - that's probably what it is.

    Just checked...no doubling...image
  • Is that "moderate extra thickness" on the motto? imageimage

Platinum dust - doesn't PCGS have a coin number for that? Seems it has slabability.

That's too bad. Still a nice plat, though! image

It's interesting how the photo came out that way. I guess the reflection of the letters ended up on the fields.
