Platinum dust!

Saw the thread about the gold dust on the capsules the other day. Was inspecting my Plats today and saw what I thought was a couple of tiny gouges in a 1oz. I almost shat myself. I was PISSED!
Broke out the loupe and lo and behold, it wasn't a gouge, but it was Plat dust on the outside of the capsule - pretty cool.

Why would I do that? The specks are on the outside of the capsule. Nothing else wrong with coins or believe me, you would have heard about it.
<< <i>Cool, maybe it's the Mints way of saying sorry for the bad products in the past... Or, maybe it's a Christmas bonus? >>
Everyone save their dust and we'll put it all in a vial and pass it around like the Stanley Cup.
I'd ask for your dust but I think I'm allergic to platinum dust which is probably why I never buy em!
The name is LEE!

Now that you mention it, look at the top of the Y, is that a second rim? What about under the left cleff) what is that called at the top of the Y, is that a bump?
Newb, i was kidding....

With only 120 posts, I don't know you well enough to know that. That's why there are these things called "emoticons"

Oh it's got it all, baby...doubling, dust....it's the grandaddy of the be all end all error shizznit.
I don't know if it's doubling or jpeg artifaction...just got home and will take a close look later...I think it's just the lighting, though.
<< <i>Looks like there is a little around the edge of the capsule too. There was so much on mine I was worried the grader might think damage. Its hard to get off because you have to keep washing your hands or it keeps going back on there
Yep there is, BigE, just didn't feel like circling all of it...I know dam well we're not the only two to have it, so how much $ is the Mint throwing away because of DUST??
<< <i>I actually gave up trying to get it all off, I'll probbly end up with a bunch of 67's-------------BigE >>
No man...your mess was on the outside, right? My coins looked great under a 5x...I think it must stick to the packers' hands and then gets transferred about.

You should really check. The U and S in "TRUST" sure look doubled to me. The U could be an artifact, but the way the S is, I don't think that's just from the image...

<< <i>The $10 AGEs came in little blue pouches which "shed" onto the capsules - is the dust on the plats the same color as the pouch? >>
No, the 4pc comes in a box - but the interior has silver colored silkscreening - that's probably what it is.

Just checked...no doubling...

That's too bad. Still a nice plat, though!
It's interesting how the photo came out that way. I guess the reflection of the letters ended up on the fields.
