Doesn't this belong in the "official" thread, Bear?

    image

Seriously though, without starting another thread, what's the deal with having to choose between "First Strike" or "10th Anniversary" designation? We all know FS is ridiculous, but this isn't the time to argue that. They did both FS and 20th Ann with the Gold and Silvers, so why do we have to choose between one or the other now? The PCGS rep I just spoke with said he didn't know why, that's just how they were told to do it.

    Yours truly,
    Confused

PCGS does not force anyone to choose a label! If you don't choose a special
label and pay extra for it, they will put a regular label on it.

Just in this last week, this is what I've tracked on the 'bay

    1oz $1650/2326/2550/2376
    1/2 $1260/999
    1/4 $ 742/655
    1/10$ 405/317/421/475

Am I right to assume that the PCGS MS69 prices would be equal to the raw prices?
  • Options
PCGS MS69 will probably be a little bit higher than raw.

not necessarily. I've been collecting plats for a while and the raw coins quite often go higher on hopes that they will grade a 70.

I agree I've always had to pay more for Mint packages and COA while the PF69's are almost always cheaper. At least that's what I've seen while building my 1/10 Plat proof set, in fact I've followed some 2004's and it's quite a bit more. Once it's graded it's graded for the most part but in a package one never knows huh? I think in the future some of this packing will be worth money since everyone is trying to get MS/PF 70's and some of these coins are very low mintage.

    Triple T!!
GREAT BST transactions with Wondercoin, segoja, moderncoinmart, notwilight, wingsrule, 123cents, fivecents, hunted, alohagary, ibzman350, WTCG, sonofagunk, amigo, coincoins, dcgolfer, chumley, nycounsel, tootawl, guitarwes, kimber45ACP, Zubie, Egger, RYK, 1tommy, EagleEye, NEFPROLLC, jmdm1194, Coinfolio

So, if someone bought for resale, the trick is to submit for grading and if not a 70 crack out and sell raw, ethics notwithstanding.

Note: I'm not suggesting that I would or anybody else should do that.

I could see unopened boxes bringing higher prices than 69's, but I would think open sets would be all cherrypicked.

Aren't you supposed to keep all your bullion posts in another thread you started this week? image

    You would think wrong.
There are many people that buy something and sell it just as it was received. I do on many of my things (only once, so far, have I "cherrypicked" something and sold it).
Especially if someone bought on speculation.....they see a profit and just sell it.

I bought 3 1/2oz 2006-W AGEs. I plan to sell 2 or all 3 of them. I am not going to cherrypick them but will just sell them. They are opened so someone could get a 70 or a 69 on them. Doesn't matter to me. I am sure there are many more out there like that too.

Now, if you bought from a heavy submitter or dealer.....well, then yeah, I would believe your statement to be more true.

Thanks! That means you think I know the difference between a 68 and a 70.

Since I have never even seen a MS69 or MS70, much less bought a loupe to see their differences, I think it's safe to say my sets aren't cherrypicked.... image
