Is there much of a market for error U.S. gold coins?

  There is a market and active collector base for U.S. gold coins that are off-center, broadstruck, brockages, partial brockages, partial collars and double/triple strikes. The types of errors that I just listed are extremely rare on U.S. gold coins. There are only 2 known brockages and 2 known off-metals (not pattern off-metals but mint errors). Minor mint error types (laminations and struck thrus) are not rare and are hard to sell. Double die U.S. gold coins are die errors and are not collected by those who want striking errors.

  Nearly half of all Sesquicentenial $2.50 I have examined show significant doubling across all legends of the reverse - not only have I never seen anyone ask for a premium for this, but Breen apparently did not even bother to note it.

  Must be a market for strike thru too because I bought a 1997 one.
