What will be the hot item from the US Mint in 2007?

Out of curiosity I was wondering what other forum members think about which item from the US Mint will be the most sought after in 2007?

The only item I see that I have an interest in would be the platinum 10th anniversary set coins if they are low mintage. They are starting the sale of unc W gold & silver coins very early in the year which means at this point large mintages.

What ever is hot probably will not have limited mintage. The mint usually does not make the same mistake twice and will capitalize on the success of 2006. Everyone and there grandmother will be buyers of 2007 mint products looking to make a few bucks.

Platinum anniversary proofs is the only thing I may be interested in. I will not be buying the gold or silver or platinum uncirculated W. I have a feeling those mintages will rise to the same level as the proof versions. I guess we shall see. I might buy that segregated comm though, hopefully it won't be popular.

My feeling is that the 10th Anniv. platinum set and the Jefferson Liberty presidential dollar will be the ones everyone will want. The Jamestown anniversary will be a close contender.

As far as the coins to buy for a profit, I would venture to guess that the 10th anniv. plats will be the ones to get. Unless the mint surprises us again next year with a reverse proof indented platinum and swarovsky coin

I here we will have the presidents pets in platinum.

I disagree that everyone will want the Jefferson dollar - I had the same thoughts about the Old San Fran Mint commemoratives but that didn't happen to the extent I thought probable. On the other hand, if the Mint produces fractional gold buffaloes in 2007, I see the quarter-ounce being very popular. On the low-mintage side, I can see the President Spouse gold coins being an interesting "bet" because the designs look so hideous and they will be so pricey I'm not sure a lot of people will want them. Overall, I'm going with the regular and silver proof sets as hot items that will have what a lot of people want at affordable prices.

2007, in light of what happened in 2006,

will be very tricky indeed. I suspect what we

now anticipate to be good, will not prove to be

so. The Mint can be expected to play mind games

on the masses for maximum profit. It may well turn out,

that 2007 will not prove a good year for sleeper purchases.

It will have to be watched and analyzed most carefully.

Really? I actually like the reverse better than the obverse. Based on how I felt about the San Fran silver commem's reverse (I thought it looked too "replica" and was disappointed), I don't think Jefferson's obverse will look that great. On the other hand, I would rather see the gold coin's reverse with Jefferson's dollar instead of the Statue of Liberty.

While the FirstHags™ will be relatively low mintages for commemoratives, the after market will be miniscule. You may see a good run-up on hype initially if people hoard them and the mintages are low enough, but in the long run they'll be duds IMO. Especially this years' issues, as the mintages of these will be much higher than in subsequent years due to their novelty and relative familiarity the public has of the subjects. I may plunk the dough down on the Jefferson if the coin looks appealing; otherwise I'm out. My guess is after a few years of sitting idle in hoarders' inventories, you could pick up graded Hags just above melt, dispite their low mintages. At some point in time dealers will just dump them just to turn over their inventories. (Just because something's low mintage doesn't mean that it will perform well over time--there has to be demand for the product. There are plenty of 'limited editions' in virtually every hobby selling for cents on the dollar because so few people care after time passes.

I have a feeling the mint will do more to capitalize on the 10th Anniversary of the Platinums that what's been proposed, and think they'd find a couple different ways to market their products. I do like the idea of the leather bound folio with the 1/2 oz. plat paired with the engraved classic gold certificate, but I wouldn't be suprised to see a three coin set with special platinum, gold and silver. (And I'll take off work the day something like that goes on sale to be sure I get my order in immediately. )

I thought the mint floated the idea of a silver release of the presidents. I've enjoyed collecting the Silver quarters, I'd be thrilled if they issued the presidents in the same.
Even if they don't the proof sets have more coins than ever with 5 state quarters, 4 presidents, sac, silver Kennedy, FDR, etc. Hopefully, they'll price these at affordable levels.

I'll buy the Jamestown in proof and Unc as gold commems are my priority in collecting. However, I'll more than likely buy them graded on eBay-rather than directly from the mint. With the capsules popping all over the place and coins getting scratched on the San Frans, I was sickened by having to make the returns this year. Besides you could buy 69s below the cost of buying them direct from the mint and having them graded.

With nine different coins (Sac, four Presidential dollars, four first spouse $10) all the same size, there will presumably be some opportunities for wrong planchets and mules. I don't think I ever heard of state quarter mules, with one state on the obverse and another on the reverse, which is almost suprising, given the volume and the in-process changeovers. Actually, if the past is any predictor, the most likely candidate for a poor seller (which results in a premium after time passes) is the Little Rock commem.

Probably some fantastic folderol that has never been made before and will not be announced until after we have already shot our wads on other folderol.......
