How does NNC grading compare with PCGS grading?

I have never bought an NNC graded coin and I have a hard time estimating the grade of a coin from most pictures on ebay. Recently, I have been looking at some NNC Morgan and Peace dollars on ebay and wondered if anyone here has any experience with cracking out and sending NNC coins to PCGS or for crossover?

Thanks,
Charlie

Crack out a nicer NNC 66...and you MIGHT get a PCGS 63. I stress "might." That assumes it's not cleaned or whizzed or a slider.

I bought a few to check them out. The grading was as bad as NTC.

My experience has been that they typically overgrade by three points on Mint State silver dollars, and they often put coins in holders that get rejected by PCGS for cleaning or Altered Surfaces.

Buying NNC coins is like playing with a hot stove: it won't take long at all until you get burned.
    When in doubt, don't.

I'll cherry a VAM from those holders (only did one so far) but will assume MS ones are AU at best. The one I got was a 21-D Morgan (VAM-1P) in 64. Looks 63 to me and wouldn't make sense, per valuation, to slab at all. Only got one of the abon SGS Morgans too. It hasn't arrived, but I priced as an AU with cleaning just in case. I find most third world holdered coins to be tagged generally a minimum of 2 grades high in MS compared to the top TPGs. It varies some both ways.

Treat this coin like any other coin in a third world slab---treat it like it was raw.

  • In general 2 to 4 points higher on MS coins than PCGS.

    ie NNC67= pcgs63 or 64. w an occasional 65.

There holders are just fancy 2X2's. You can put anything you want on it.

I've heard many stories of counterfeits in third world slabs so you should worry about more than just the grade.

I have no personal experience with NNC.
I have a little with ACG, and ICG... a little more with PCI and NGC along with ANACS.
Now take the beginning initials. N,A,I,P,N, and A . and unscramble them.

    A P.A.I.N.N

    Some compare, some not.

This is an NNC special purchased from Centsles for $42 when I didn't know any better.

Judge for yourself...does it meet the grade that it was given?

One cent... as to your coin and question:

image I'd say AU55 and brown on a good day.

I don't like them. There grading is usually at least 2 to 3 points off and many are cleaned or altered coins.
