my brother ordered 5 to keep and 5 for me
my office mate ordered 10 for me and refused $100 for it
my colleague ordered 10 for me and refused $100 for the service
my other colleague is ordering 10, 9 for me and one for her boy friend free of cost to her

Here's a way to do it.

Open a checking account with a primary and a secondary account holder.

Pick people with a different address.

    You and your Mom
    You and your brother.
    You and whoever.

I used a totally different bank that neither of us had an account with.

You get check cards for each account holder, the addresses can be different.

So now you have a checking account and check card for you and your address and the same account with a check card for your Mom and her address. You use your Moms check card to purchase your second set of 10. The only thing you need is money in the bank because it's not a credit card.

I have my brother and my mom set up this way. This way I don't have to ask them to put something on their credit card, I just order it via the check card, I make sure there is money in the bank and the next thing you know the item is showing up at their door step.

I didn't do this for the ASE or AGE because it wasn't set up. Now I'm ready if something big comes from the Mint.

    WOW!

What is the Mint's policy on ordering.

    Credit card, name, address?

Now I feel silly only ordering 1 initially (which I have already received), but I guess I tried to get greedy when I ordered a second one (ship date still at 12/8).

I ordered 10 sets via the Mint Web site....waiting patiently since Oct 14th...."In Stock and Reserved"

Also, bought several mid to high priced sets and slabbed RP's via eBay.

Hope I made some happy eBay sellers this Christmas.

I ordered 10 and sold 6 sets on eBay to recoup my expenses. One of the remaining 4 sets went to NGC for a multiholder, One I will keep in mint packaging, and the others are being saved in Mint packaging for sale in the future.

I got one gold set as well and I kept it in Mint packagaing. No "special" slab designations for me. The box it came in makes the best presentation in this case.

I ordered 10 with my name, address, and CC

Then I asked, for the first time ever, family and friends to do a financial favor. I very much avoid mixing business with social life, but this time I made an exception.

Here’s the email I sent to TRUSTED friends and family:

The US Mint is issuing a 20th anniversary 3 pc silver eagle set that contains what is called a “reverse proof”. On a normal proof coin, the raised areas are frosted (on a good one) and the background in mirrored. On a reverse proof, it is opposite. This is the first time the mint has made a reverse proof in silver, and it is only available in this 3 pc. set. The mintage is limited to 250,000 sets and the sets are priced at $100 each. There is a limit of 10 per household (I ordered 10).

I am convinced this is an excellent investment, both short term and long term. The gold version of this set was priced at $2610 and sold out at the mint in one day (that was about a month ago). Unfortunately, I was asleep at the wheel and missed out on that one. The mintage on the gold set was limited to 10,000, but the collector base for gold eagles is much smaller that for silver eagles. Every collector of silver eagles will have to have this reverse proof, and it is only available in this three piece set.

Here the link to the US Mint webpage to order:
    http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=13812&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=12738

Over 230,000 of the 250,000 available have already been ordered, so time is of the essence. I would highly recommend ordering 10 sets. Your credit card will not be charged until the order is ready for shipment.

Now, here comes the request. If this is not something that you feel good about doing, would you order 10 for me? As I said, I have already ordered my max and the mint won’t accept any additional orders from me (I tried, the order gets accepted but is cancelled the next day due to order limits). Order the sets; give them your name, address and credit card info and forward me the info. I will reimburse you before your credit card is even charged.

If for some reason you don’t want to this, that’s OK. I’m asking a few family members and a couple of friend so I’ll still get a bunch, but I would really appreciate it if you did this for me (if you don’t want them for yourself).

Call me at xxx-xxx-xxxx with any questions (or just to say Hi!). Hope to see you soon,

    Bill

That did the trick. EVERY relative I set this to bought the 10 sets for me, as did two friends. One friend took me at my word and bought 10 for himself and proceeded to have a few other people buy additional sets for him (in that case it was OK, because he is my boss at work).

    You asked!

Oh, c'mon...that's bull. Anyone that wanted one had plenty of time to order one. My last box was ordered on 10/10 and is now in stock and reserved. If you missed out, you have no one to blame but yourself.

The Mint imposes the limit because they want everyone to have a fair chance to get some coins. Wouldn't it be unethical to circumvent the rules, however you do it?

The hobby is called coin COLLECTING, not coin Hoarding. Those that pyramided the ordering to involve their aunt's sister's uncle's cousin's next-door neighbor's pet chihuahua named Mr. Biggy with a preapproved credit card offer raped the system and drove the price up for the true collector. Artificial valuation of a relatively common collector item. Thanks guys and gals! Enjoy the business!

Can an IPO be limited so everyone has a shot? Can your broker say 'you can't buy that many shares'? Within mathmatical reason of course.

I do blame myself. But by 10/10 I was really new to this whole "hobby" and am kicking myself for not just ordering one. Believe it or not $100 is still a good chunk of money to some people and I didn't want to get put in a "bind" by ordering coins. With that said, yes I do blame myself, and yes it's still kind of crazy that people were ordering 40 and 50 sets. A great investment and a great flip for those people. And I have gone back and checked the mint site just to see by "chance" that they may be "avaliable". No suck luck.

We all look for that new coin that we can buy and keep one or two and sell one or two so we can buy more coins or up Grad, Some times we win some times we loose this was a no brainer just like the 10th Ann but not all of us caught that one this time most of us were ready, Now we need to get ready for 2007 Buffalo in 1oz/ 1/2 oz 1/4oz 1/10oz maybe we can all get this one. image
