Rotated die Kennedy half. Where's Russ?

I believe i have found a rotated die Kennedy half. Its a 1989 P. When you flip it like a normal coin the reverse is upside down but when you turn it side for side its almost vertical. The eagles head points to about 5 o'clock. Is reversed die the correct term for this and any idea of value. I would guess its vf or better. (I'm not good at grading yet )
Any thoughts, help, advice?

So it has a medallic orientation? Very cool find, and also rather scarce. Tough to put a value on it. It won't be huge, though.

  • So is rotated die the correct term ? Yes it is like a medal. Thanks for the help guys. I will post pics when I get to my other computer.

Are you sure you don't mean '88-P? These appear in the mint set And had a mintage
probably, somewhat in excess of 10,000.

I believe all examples originated in the mint set so if you found this elsewhere then it's
likely evidence of the amount of destruction of these sets.

The coin census lists only an '88-P.

The coin, in any case, probably doesn't have a lot of value but the '88-P is a little more
widely sought because it appears in the set. Lightly circulated examples could bring up
to $100 on ebay perhaps. Choice coins still in the set rarely are offered and usually don't
command more than a few hundred.

  • Cladking, this is most definatly a 1989 P Kennedy half. It has been circulated and shows it .
Any clue to value? I realize its impossible to guess that without seeing it. It has been in a box since about 1995 but it was circulated before that. So it does show some dings and scratches.
I wish Iwas at work so I could scan it. My curiousity is killing me . Should I put it on Ebay?
Thanks again for all the help to this newbie.
    (Please excuse my spelling)
I just measured it for degree of rotation. Its about 135 degrees . Hope this helps.

I really don't have much clue as to value and can't remember hearing of an '89-P with RR. Most
of these don't bring a lot and the '88 is a little bit of an exception.

It's probably real (and scarce) but just to be sure I'd check the fields by the rim and the edge to
be sure there are no seems which would be evidence that the coin was alterred.
