Grading Question
I just had an 1909-S VDB graded by PCGS. They put for grading "NOT Genuine RD" They gave it a cert# and pcgs # of 2428.
What does not genuine rd mean? How do I determine the value of this coin?
Thanks

That's not what it means. It means the coin is red, but not a genuine '09-S VDB.

I'm buy no means an expert, but this coin is one that is faked, either an added S mm, or an added VDB. My local dealer pointed out that a genuine 09S VDB has a die gouge between R and U in trust, and the S mm is boxy in style. Wish I had a pic, welcome to the boards

The S MM must have vertical, parallel serifs
There is usually a small die chip in the upper loop of the S
The center line of the B on the reverse must be diagonal, not horizontal.

That might be true for one obverse die, but there were four different obverses used so that little diagnostic would only work about 25% of the time.

Sorry to hear this, i got snagged on one about 6 years ago.
Slightly expensive lesson learned.

I wish I did, not that it would do me much good. It just ticks me off, knowing he got ripped off. I don't think I should tell her.

<< <i>Unforunately NOT, It belonged to my father who has past on. I don't know where he got it from. I do remember as a kid him showing and telling tell me about it and that he paid a lot for it. My mother ask me to try and sell some of his coins. She's 78 and could use the money.

AgentG:
Sorry to hear that your father got scammed on that coin. That sucks.
On the positive side, you should keep that coin as an heirloom. He thought enough of the coin to pay big bucks for it and hang on to it. Even though the true monetary value turned out to be negligible, it obviously meant something to him.
