I just sorted through 1000 Morgans today. Anyone up for some endroll toners? GRADES IN 1ST POST!

There is no way I could be a grader. Looking at Morgans all day long is boring! But did get a bulk submission ready and found quite a few 1887 VAM 12 DDO Gatoreyes! After going through about 800 tubed Morgans, the dealer says. Hang on, I have more in the safe. He brings out a ammo case. Inside are rolled Morgans! He said this is the way he bought them in the 1970s. I wish I would have found them 10 years ago. But I just couldn't see him trying to dip the toning off. So here they are!

PCGS LOVED THEM!!!
7 1 10956097 7154 1884-O $1 US Questionable Color
8 1 10956098 7162 1885-O $1 US Questionable Color
8 2 10956099 7162 1885-O $1 US Questionable Color
8 3 10956100 7162 1885-O $1 US Questionable Color
8 4 10956101 7162 1885-O $1 US Questionable Color

Beautiful Marty, but you now have driven the prices down even more with your find. Put them back in the safe. image

I pretty sure everyone knows MadMarty works very very hard on his cherry picking both in knowledge and beating the bushes.

I always enjoy your posts and enthusiasm on these boards.

    Thanks bro!

No way there were only 10 rolls. I don't think that makes a collection.

Nice coins! Are you allowed to submit multiple dates as part of a bulk submission?

Yes, I'm waiting for an answer on if I can submit VAMs at no extra charge (they are all the same VAM) and I'm going to use these to bring the order above 100 coins.

Marty: I read this interesting thread with enthusiasm, and would love to have the opportunity to search through thousands of Morgan Dollars to get my first pick of them.

I was once given the opportunity to search through several hundred certified Saint Gaudens Gold Double Eagles, to pick out my favorite 10. It took me 3 hours -- but I did pick out some really pretty NGC MS-63 1922 Saints, and a few other more common date Saints. That's the kind of coin collecting (treasure hunting) that I truly enjoy!! image

I had an endroller darkly toned that was bagged for environmental damage once...........was a nice coin too. I wonder how much better the colors would have been if not stored in rolls in an ammo can? Gun powder is nasty stuff. Looks like some nice coins though.

    Marty,

Some really nice colors. Since I'm a newbie, would these be considered AT or NT and what is a VAM?

Those are NT all the way, a VAM is a Morgan Variety. The ones are found are the Gator Eye VAM-12s.

To carefullly examine 1000 silver dollars takes a good fulll work day, at an average of 30 seconds per coin. However, many dates can be very quickly assessed and obvious cherries are picked out far faster and set aside. Still, a few hours are required. Fortunately, it is faster in hand than when working with online images. I do thousands of these each month, both images and in hand.

Nice group of toners! Usually I find those already picked out and priced up.

The rolls were 1884-O and 1885-O, the others were 1887-Ps that is where the Gator Eyes came from.

I held the most colorful ones out to send to PCGS. I guess they just don't like end roll toners any more.

    When in doubt, don't.

So PCGS pegged 5 of those pictured as questionable colr, but slabbed the rest? And what do you plan to do with them, give them to the PCGS board member name that most closely resembles a spicy vedgtable? image

There are another 5 at PCGS, and the others got slabbed by NGC and have already been sold.

Why not just place 2 Morgans together as a 'roll'.

After 10+ years EACH coin would have "End Roll Toning"..
