Big PCGS screwup-- ouch-- wrong coins-- :(
Well, after waiting patiently to get my 3 piece gold Eagle First Strike 20th set back from PCGS... with a nice revpf70.... finally got the box from the post office today.
Got home, opened.... and found 3 silver Eagles!...... talk about a let down and sinking feeling.....
I'm sure it will eventually get straightened out and PCGS will make right on it.... my paperwork was included in the shipment that shows the gold coins listed. Also, PCGS had photocopied the slab box/order number on my papers; it does not match the box that I received. And, the original fullfillment center shipping box was returned with it... that has the rightful owners name on it (I assume.... hey Mark ***** in Los Altos, if you're out there.... did you get my coins??
) Looks like PCGS dropped the wrong coins into the wrong shipping boxes.
Any suggestions out there on the best way to proceed with this??? Like I said, I'm sure PCGS will eventually make right on it... but what a hassle.
Meanwhile.... I can now say for a fact.... the other posts that mentioned receiving the wrong coins... were probably true! Not a real confidence builder..... I know mistakes happen, but when you send in that coin thinking you are going to make a top pop, and get one back that does not quite look like the one that you sent in........

Yes, I suspect that the best way to proceed is to talk to PCGS directly about this.
<< <i>hey Mark ***** in Los Altos, if you're out there.... did you get my coins??
As someone who used to live near there, I can attest to the fact that someone who lives in Los Altos is wealthy enough already and doesn't need the "gift" of a few GAEs...
<< <i>Just tried calling PCGS.... closed today..... must be the holidays or something.... >>
That would make for a long weekend in my book.
I was just ready to try ANACS again before the recent changes. I just don't have a lot of confidence in any of the TPG's and will probably keep my own collection raw. Anything I slab will be for resale but I hate the thought of trusting these "people"

Ooops.... it appears that Mark ***** may not be the original purchaser of the silver set, but is probably the submitter. His name is written on the box in marker, so must have purchased from the original owner who lives in Los Altos.
<< <i>I'll be stunned if this is not a hoax! >>
I assure you.... this is definitely NOT a hoax. You can see from some of the other posters that this has happened before. It appears in most of the other cases, the wrong shipments were fairly close in value. Unfortunately, not so in my case. I'm definitely on the WRONG side of this trade... receiving 3 ounces of silver coins instead of 3 ounces of gold coins.
And the 3 silver ASE First Strikes were only 69's! (My gold set had a rev proof 70 in it). Not a very even trade.
But as mentioned in my first post, the paper trail looks to be fairly well laid out.... so should be able to get it resolved eventually. But I do have to admit... it will kind of nag me throughout the weekend!!

I'll second that.
We can start a "write-in" grass roots program for you Lee.
I assure you.... this is definitely NOT a hoax.
Sorry! Stunned, in that PCGS would allow such a situation
to occur for one of its customers. I believed you, but wanted
to believe this fiasco couldn't happen!
Actually, I commend you. You write so even-handedly about it, and
are taking in stride what was a shock to the system, and even now nags.
Since the switcheroos have happened before, and now with a gold-silver switch
it seems to be getting worse, I have to wonder how PCGS is following up on quality
control in the packing room...
Well, I too trust that PCGS will get it sorted out in short order,
and that they'll make things right with you.
Here's hoping all's well that ends well...raise your cup to tincup!
But, I do agree with you that this will be a long weekend for you. It sure would be for me.
Best of luck to ya'.

And yet, in that particular instance, CoinKing was correct in that it was indeed baseless.

Lee, careful what you wish for, "I'm willing to accept this challenge for a "fair" wage + moving expenses.", as most can't make it out here on a "fair" wage!
Change that to "outrageous" wage & you might make it.

Yes indeed. from the same thread...
<<<My friend who submitted the gold piece recently found the original 2x2 the coin was in and has confessed to having had a "senior moment" when he filled out the submission form. The coin was, in fact, a 1901 but he wrote down 1904 on the form.
PCGS did not make a mistake of any kind whatsoever here, and I again apologize for having started this thread.
End of story, OK? >>>
That was this morning, it had 3 replies and quickly moved to page 100. I didn't know it was baseless until I researched the thread to see what you were talking about. Thanks for pointing that out!
Buying top quality Seated Dimes in Gem BU and Proof.
Buying great coins - monster eye appeal only.
Add to it all the people on this thread that are stating that they have received the wrong coins and you have a really big mess at PCGS. It would make it very believable that a switch could happen. CoinKing, by switch, I do not mean intentional switch. Accidents happen but from this thread, people are getting wrong coins and PCGS can be held liable. Not a big deal for those that have similar priced coins but silver sets versus gold sets starts to get pretty pricey. Let's not fool ourselves, the members of this forum represent a small portion of submitters and this thread has more than one person receiving wrong coins. Any body submitting coins to PCGS should be very concerned with the tracking of their coins. PCGS has completely lost coins of mine (actually they sent them through USPS without tracking and were lost within USPS).
Hopefully, this gets rectified quickly. Good Luck!
Hi Richard! If I'm correct in guessing that your use of "Mechanical Error" is not sardonic,
then I get your point regarding my use of the word "switcheroo".
And point well taken, because I didn't mean to imply intentional switching.
I never could understand why they were using an annoying euphemism
like "mechanical error" until now. Thanks!
<< <i>Tincup: PCGS video tapes every submission. Let's go to the video tape!
Hopefully, this gets rectified quickly. Good Luck! >>
I hope that's true.... about the video taping.... should be very apparent that silver coins got placed into my shipping box. (as long as it clearly shows the name on the box and which coins are going into it!) Even though I realistically know it will be made right.... still is bothering me somewhat this weekend.
All the best-
<< <i>I was wondering how this ended up--resolution yet? >>
