Pasadena, Texas Coin Show Report

Bourse opened to the public at 2:00, $1 to get in. About maybe 50 tables (just a wild guess), plenty of looking going on, there were sales and a bit of activity. Ran into Stewart and dizzlecc in the parking lot, just a coincidence, we went in at 2:05 and it was good. Stu immediately gravitates to the bust and morgan dollars, trying to get in a score before he heads off to scandinavia tomorrow. He probably scored...he had a couple of coins out, tucked up near him so he was certainly leaning over a couple of busties but the dealer kept trying to smooth him into this morgan, maybe he will post the results. Dizzle was hanging with stu, pokin' around on some morgans and they both appeared to be having a very pleasant time of the whole thing. I found a 51 O $10 with that little "O" thingie in the shield...cool, snagged it. I visited the bullion dealer for a few minutes, then went and got some flips and a Kennedy half book (to support my going to the bank for a few rolls of halves habit). I didn't see any big dogs with tables and it is mostly a regional/local show but big enough that some folk bring some nice coins to sell. Go to your local shows.

Coin ON!

Neat coin. All 1851-O ten Libs that I've seen have this feature. Have you noticed that it's in the exact center of the reverse design? That's where the compass point was placed to lay out the lettering. This feature also appears on other dates such as the 1847 and 1848 Lib tens.

Mike: It was good seeing you, DizzleCC, and also meeting XPhobe during today's Pasadena Coin Club Show.

I am REAL pleased with the group of very interesting coins that I purchased there today from Bryan Fazio and Larry Cundari. I always enjoy visiting with them and looking through their superior quality high eye-appealing coins!

Today's purchases are the following 5 coins, 3 of which I have photographed and posted on Pasadena Coin Show New Purchases Thread Link for your viewing pleasure and for your comments. image

Mike it was good to see you again.

Yes, the 51 O $10 gold was very cool. The "o" in the shield was very visable. It was a nice ms62.

At the Money Show in January we should get together and you can educate me and aid in the purchase a nice 51 O or maybe an indian.

I need to expand my horizons. My morgan collection is getting down to scarce date coins and I have gotten picky. My only purchase was a pq 1921 S. I finally found a nice 64 that fits the collection.

It was a smaller show and we mainly visited only two tables in the 3 hours we were there.

There was a Joe Dirt sighting.

Overall, it was a fun experience. Everyone was in a good mood and you always seem to learn new things about coins and the current happenings in the market.
  • yep, Joe Dirt was in the house. image
  • It was fun meeting Stuart and dizzlecc. Seems like you guys know everybody. Stuart, I'm jealous of your 1806 half. A real beauty!

I didn't have much luck myself... my Prime Directive was to locate a low-grade flowing hair dollar, and there just were none to be found. (Well, there was one, but the obverse fields looked granular. I don't mind cleaned, holes or scratches, but I don't do granular.)

So I consoled myself with a 1795 half cent from Ed and Lance Hipps instead. Down to 4-to-go on my Hard Life (tm) 18th century type set!

Sorry I missed xphobe and jbsteven, maybe we can get together at the next money show in January. This coin club sponsored show really was very pleasant. Nice coins, nice people, enough buks to swim around in the pond a little, not too crowded, easy in and out. Pasadena coin club gets a big high sign from me for putting on such a nice show. Here's to ya' guys!!!

I thought I saw the mullet there...next time we are going to stand him out in the middle so we can all see him.
