PCI slab question

I know nothing about PCI. There's a coin I want in a PCI holder. I don't care about the grade, but what's the likelihood it's a damaged coin?

If it were damaged, PCI would put it into a red boarded holder and list the type of damage.
  • If it's the old green holder it may be okay.
PCI used to be fairly decent years ago.
Problem coins were red holdered as stated above. Some of the red holdered coins, wouldn't be considered problem coins by todays standards though.
I have a PCI Red 1853-O Seated Quarter marked "scratched". You need a loupe to see the scratch, and it's about 1/16th inch long.
I'm sure PCGS would slab this coin.

All of Ernie's coins look very similar in that they seem dull and washed-out. Has anyone received an Ernie (or "ebwcoin") coin to see if all the coins do look like that or if it's just his images?
  • Mike,
Please post a "real" picture when you get it.

I think part of the problem is the images, though many of his coins have been cleaned (not necessarily by him). I have bought from him once or twice in the past and was pleased with what I got, though I found the pricing a little stiff. Aside from that, no complaints.

The coins I bought were technically "problem" coins anyway, though. Holeys. An 1856-S $2.50 and a counterstamped, holed XF-ish Trade dollar. Cool holeys, both of them. Ernie is the king of holey coins on eBay. Oh, yeah- I got my holey double-headed Washington cent from him, too.

He is the one who often has what I want in holed coins for my vest, and I just happened to email him last night to try and haggle him down a little on one or two pieces he has.
