1921-D Morgan Dollar with die cracks (Questions)

I was wondering why people where offering me so much money for this coin.I got the new cherrypicker guide and it shows some of the same die cracks as on the coin.There are about 5 die cracks on both sides.Is this possible..The book says that if there are more than one die crack that this is very rare on a morgan dollar..It on page 346 in the new volume 2 forth edition..It does not show a price on it either..Help me...Thanks

For it to be a desirable VAM, you gotta look for the die breaks, not just die cracks. I'm not sure if yours has an actual break or not. Here is a link to too much 1921-D VAM Variety information on Rob Joyce's site Link

No, die cracks are pretty common, especially on 1921-D coins. I don't see any die breaks in the photos, which is where premiums would start.

Ok the pictures are not the greatest but some of the lines or whatever go from the rim almost all the way across...Some on front and back..The site the other person sent me to from here (can't remember name) some of them look the same as the one i have..There is a show this saturday in carthage,mo and i will take it with me and ask one of them there..I don't know the difference but like i said before people at a coin club really wanted it and it made me curious.They didn't say why...

Looks probably like a very early die state of VAM-1B....thus is just VAM-1.

Can you post close-ups of the crack across the forehead and into the hair?

It's difficult to tell from the pics, but it does appear interesting.

Ok here are some more photos of the error.I took 10 more pictures.The 1 line runs from the rim at the bottom right up through the front of the face.There are more marks like this on the other side of the coin also...I took the pictures in sections as it would show as one picture..Sorry i can't get a better picture of all the breaks or cracks in 1 picture...

Like I said, this is an early state of what would be the VAM-1B. It is critical, however, that there be an aprreciable break bove the R of AMERICA for there to be a warranted premium.

I also think early die state of VAM 1B. Look at the R of AMERICA. There is probably the start of a die crack or two atop the R, which eventually turns into the die break that is the diagnostic for the VAM 1B.
