New 1853 Seated Liberty Half Dollar with Arrows and Rays!

Just now off of eBay.

Let me know what you think! I will post my thoughts on the coin later.
I have a 7 day return privilege, so if it has hidden problems I am covered.
Thanks!

Beautiful type coin. I really like the problem-free survaces and color, it just has some honest wear from doing her duty

Nice pick up!

Can you still make out the "E" in LIBERTY?
or is it worn completely away?
Thanks.

hmmm..... maybe you've been the one of those dastardly snipers ?????
I love the "look"; leave it in the bowl on the way out
<< <i>Nice pick up. I'd been trying to get one on ebay lately but several folks are sniping them at the end.....

As I only have a budget for one coin a month, I doubt it.
Nice bowl, but I'll pass thanks.
WoodenJefferson, I don't have the coin in hand, but I do not think you can make out the E.

I still need one of these for my Philadelphia mint Seated half set. I almost won an NGC AU50 example on ebay last night but got sniped in the last 2 seconds.
The Wiley & Bugert book says the 1853 is a common date and is currently overrated because it's a one year type coin. Coins struck from dies of this date are found with little abrasian and with full strikes.
But this is the only date in the entire series that has rays on the tail design. So, it's a must have for type. I hope to get one soon.
OK- Here's my take on it:
I am truly enamoured with this piece. I grade it F-12- F-15 from the images (the reverse is nicer) and I don't see anything to make me believe it is anything other than wholly original. When I get the coin in hand, I will be on the look out for evidence of an older cleaning, but I just hope that won't be the case.
I paid (IMO) strong money for a Fine, but the eye appeal and surfaces sealed the deal. The coin is very clean and very problem free (again, from the images only) and is really the definition of eye appeal to me. I love circulation cameo looks!
Overall, I think I did well by this piece, it will apparently be one I will be proud to have in my type collection. It is a good match visually for some other pieces I have.
Also, I just LOVE that reverse with the rays! Super awesome design.
I can't wait to get it in hand, and I will certainly post my own pictures.
Thanks guys!

I already know that your photos will show the true beauty of that splendid example of the reverse rays!
I think the coin will be more dove gray in hand.
