My first Morgan toner.

Here is a photo of the reverse from the auction. As you can see there is a pretty distracting finger/palm print on the coin.

I cracked the coin from the ICG64 holder and addressed the print on the back. I think it's much more appealing now. The coin has nice crescent toning on the obverse and blazing luster on obverse and reverse.

<< <i>How did you deal with the fingerprints without disturbing the obverse toning? >>
First I tried Acetone, hoping it was fresh and would lighten it. That had no effect. Because of the fast acting nature of silver dip, I was concerned that if I got any on the obverse it would disturb the toning. So here was my solution; I laid the coin reverse up on a flat surface and dabbed distilled white vinegar on the reverse until it evenly covered it. The rim of the coin kept any from dribbling down to the obverse. Because vinegar is a much more mild acid than coin dip, I was able to monitor it much more closely and rinse it off once the desired result was achieved. I then rinsed the coin in distilled water follwed by a dip in Acetone to remove any remaining vinegar.

As a rule the water removes the vinegar and the acetone removes the residual water.
