1888-O Morgan VAM 4 Hot Lips - Dings too deep to get slabbed?

Picked this up over the weekend for $13. Do the dings on the rim look too deep to get this thing slabbed?

    Norm:

Because the insert holder ring will cover up most of those, and because of the modest grade of the coin (VF25-30), I do not think you will have any problems.
    When in doubt, don't.

The ones by P and U look a little fresh, but maybe that's just the light. I'm going to concur with Dennis. The dings are commensurate with the overall grade. Oh, and nice pickup!
  • Thanks guys! That's good news.

Very nice pick-up. I am going against the crowd, PCGS (if that is who you're sending it to) has been pretty harsh lately, I think it would get bagged for those dings, but it is a borderline call. I grade it at least vf30, maybe it could eek out a vf35 on a good day (if you don't subtract for the dings). Anyway, nice coin, good price.
Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

It is a tough call but one that I would take if I were in your shoes. This a decent example... nice originality which is refreshing... I think VF35 is about right...all things considered. If the rims were not lightly impaired, I think 40 is not unreasonable. Very nice look. Remember the flat strikes associated with this issue... you have done very, very well. Congrats

  • You stole that for $13. Great pickup. That is one of the true VAM;s worth having. If only you could find a scarface!

Very nice find. I had much larger rim hit on the reverse, they crossed it from ANACS at 62.

I think it would slab. It's VF30 on its worst day...and IMO most likely to get into a VF35. Nice job and good luck!
