That's what I was thinking. Letters not sharp enough and general lack of good detail...
Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.
Looks fake to me

<< <i>The coin and the wood behind it are both fake. Even though I know nothing about the coin, -0- bids tells me everything. The fact that "copy" isn't on the coin merely dates it prior to the hobby act. >>
...............or that it just arrived fresh from China.

I believe his story. Take a look at his feedback (rarely sells anything and does not do coins). The Continental Dollar is one of the most heavily reproduced coins of all time. Some are even collectible (e.g. HK-852 1961 restrike). This one looks like it could have been one of the mid-70's cast copies, but one thing for sure....it is a bad copy. He doesn't know what it is worth, so he is just testing the waters. He even asks for opinions from collectors in his eBay listing.

Which I have already dutifully provided him.

Why can't people understand that replicas and reproductions ARE fakes?????????

Specifically with the way the sun shines onto the Sun Dial. Of the three, which one is real?
The name is LEE!
apparently, this has not swayed this seller from ripping someone off to the tune of $28,000...YIKES

<< <i>Only one is real. >>
All three are real - only one is genuine
The seller who is the subject of the OP said:
"This Coin was given to me by my Grandfather about 16 years ago. It has been sitting in my drawer since then. I have searched this coin and dont see anything that would indicate Its a "copy" (as many have written Below the sun dial.) I don't know if it is authentic and would appreciate any info Coin Collectors may have about this Coin. Thanks for looking"
It is a fairly obvious reproduction (short of having "copy" stamped on it). Even a quick glance at Redbook would point that out. IMO the seller is just playing the Ebay lottery.

<< <i>OK. I need a little education here because of the three coins posted, no two are alike!
Specifically with the way the sun shines onto the Sun Dial. Of the three, which one is real? >>
The coin on the left is a cheap, modern cast copy. Value? $1 or $2.
The middle coin is the 1961 silver Bashlow restrike from Dickeson dies. HK-854. Value = $60 (in that condition)
The coin on the right is the real thing; Newman 3-D in pewter. Value = $25,000 (est.) and rising
CAUTION: even though a Continental Currency can be attributed by die pair does NOT mean it is genuine. We had a CC that was consigned to us a couple of years ago. It was slabbed, but something didn't seem right. We showed it to a couple of experts and the consensus opinion was that the coin was a high quality counterfeit from EDM transfer dies. Tony Terranova examined the coin and agreed. We returned the coin to the owner.
