Results from Presidential Review back on Barber Halves

I know, post pictures. Sorry, I only have a picture of the 1898-O. First the story behind the coins. The first was an ANACS 1895-P graded as XF45. Perfect XF45 detail with original dark toning. Not black, just dark which showed of the details perfectly. I cracked out the coin and PCGS gave it a grade of XF40. They don't like toned Barber Halves. I sent the coin in for a regrade last month and it still came back as XF40. This month, I sent it in for a Presidential Review and the coin was properly graded. SWEET.

The second coin was bought from Tyler Child (Arco) awhile back. Beautiful 1898-O PCGS VF35 that Tyler thought undergraded as did I. Sent the coin in for a regrade lsat month and it came back the same. Sent it in with the above coin and the grade of XF40 was properly assigned.

This now puts me at needing only 9 PCGS XF45 Barber Halves in order to have a complete set.

1 for 2 made the process worthwhile. It pays to know what you are looking at.

I was 2 for 2. 1895-P went from XF40 to XF45 and the 1898-O went from VF35 to XF40. This was the first time I have used that service.

  • Craig,

Congratulations on the 1895-P upgrade. I can see PCGS admitting to undergrading a coin by 5 points, like your 1895-P, but trying to convince them that they undergraded a coin by 10 points is a different ballgame.

Nine to go, wow, I see some tough dates in there, 00-O, 97-S, and 97-O. Keep plugging away!

Congratulations. I have been to three shows recently and have not seen nary one xf 45.

What you are accomplishing is a truly difficult task and I wish you well as always.

Nice solid EF45. It defines the grade perfectly.
