If you could have any coin-related job, what would it be...and why?

  • I sure wouldn't want to be a grader at a TPG company.
That has to be as bad as licking and sticking those little labels on fruit all day.

I think it would be fun to do cataloguing at an auction house, at least for a while. I think I can write well enough to do it, and I would particularly enjoy seeing consignments of whole collections come in. Coins, one at a time, are nice; still, there is nothing like seeing what somebody has put together with the intent that it constitute a meaningful collection. In a good collection, the whole contextualizes and deepens the significance of the parts.

Honestly, though, I think any job with coins would probably dampen my enthusiasm for the hobby after a while. Even at the dabblers' level in which I participate now, I reach saturation and need to take a break from time to time.
