    Define "circulating".

They are meant for circulating and will be handled by the bank branches. Doesn't mean people will use them. I, personally, think the presidential dolalrs are a moronic idea and won't be spending them (I spend sacs and susies at times....even ikes). They do nothing for me. I may get one of each for the set of dollars but that will be about it.

The wife coins will be the gold ones. (another stupid idea, imho)

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Not to be confused with some program the Mint is currently pushing for presidential inaugural medals with postage stamp medals to go with them. I only very briefly looked over the waste of paper they sent to me in the mail yesterday before chunking it. I had to re-look a few times to make sure I saw that it was the US Mint pushing this crap...looked a lot more like the junk the Franklin mint used to sell.

Oh...and yes, the presidential dollars will replace the Sacagawea dollar as yet another failed attempt to circulate a dollar coin. Until they get rid of the $1 bill there will be no such thing as a circulating $1 coin. They could probably put naked women on them and they still wouldn't spend. The sooner the morons in Washington figure that one out the better.

I think the first year will be distributed and well received. After that, a big THUD. If you want them, chances are you'll have to order them from the U.S. Mint, much the same way the Sacagawea and Kennedy halves have gone since the new millennium began. Obviously the Golden Wives will have a PREMIUM attached as all COMMEMORATIVE series go.

The only place they are likely to circulate is in Equador.

    That's the official party line.

    Unfortunately, they'll never circulate.

The sac and pres dollars will be produced simultaneously with one-third being sacs.

I thought I heard it was a five way split each year. SAC and four dead guys.

There is a link on the mint website to the legislation. The legislation calls for one-third to be sacs.

The US Government will make every attempt to get these to circulate and the series itself might be quite popular but until that greenback goes byebye, its gonna be a tough row to hoe!

It really too bad that our congress is more worried about getting re-elected instead of actually doing something good for the country! They are simply too scared to eliminate the bill and thats the truth! Phlat!

So, 20,000 Sacagaweas and 2500 each of the four presidential designs should about fill the commercial demand for the year.

Now, collector demand may be a bit higher......

So does this mean Jane Wyman will be on a coin? She was Ronald Reagan's first wife. image

Actually they will probably flop there as well. The Sac does well there for two reasons. One it is a US dollar which was a much more stable currency than theirs was. and two, Sacagawea as she appears on the coin closely resembles a native Ecudorian. When the coin first appeared down there the people were quite pleased that the US "put an Ecudorian woman in native dress on the coin."

I don't think they will be as happy with portraits of dead white guys.

It's frightening how stupid the powers-that-be are. They failed twice trying to get dollar coins to circulate. Dontcha think they would realize something's not right?

To be honest I think they'll circulate more than what one might expect

I guess the right answer to your original question is: The Presidential dollar coin will be called a circulating coin, it will actually circulate to a very limited extent.
