Warning for you sellers about what a bunch of friggin' morons work at PayPal.

RussRuss Posts: 48,514 ✭✭✭
I just got a pending reversal notice from PayPal for a transaction done with eBay bidder reddog4334. The notice is based on unauthorized funds, which generally means stolen or misused credit card. This bidder has bid on, and continues to bid on, a lot of coins. I'd suggest adding them to your blocked bidder list at least for the time being. It may turn out that they are legit and PayPal is wrong, but better safe then sorry.

I've gotten several "questions from an ebay member" emails asking why didn't I ship their item that they won two weeks ago. Strange since I haven't sold anything in months. Never in my ebay messages, only emails. I'm supposed to contact them within 5 days or they will file a complaint.

Let's see, to contact them, all I have to is respond and log in with my user name and password.image

    It's scary out there.

I've been getting questions for items that don't even exist. I just delete them without clicking the respond link.

Darn! I was hoping it was the bidder who won that bust half you had. I was underbidder.

Something isn't making sense here. If PayPal thinks this bidder is paying with unauthorized funds, (aka fraud), why is she still happily bidding away on eBay? Also, she's not buying anything real pricey, she's racking up plenty of positives, and posting positives for her sellers. This is fishy.

Sometimes scammers buy lots of small things due to the fact that people won't do too much if they get ripped off for $12.

That's certainly true, and would explain the bidding pattern. But, it doesn't explain why she wouldn't be at least temporarily suspended from eBay to prevent further fraud - if, indeed, there is any fraud going on. PayPal seems to think so, and one would think they'd take action.

Update on this issue. After 18 days, PayPal has completed their "investigation" and found that these "unauthorized funds" were authorized afterall. Friggin' idiots. I had a hunch this was a PayPal FUBAR, so I'm glad I held off on negging the bidder.

What's weird is sometimes Paypal and Ebay fail to get their sh*t together and do something stupid like ban the bidder on ebay, but allow the chargeback on Paypal. That's when I get mad as hell. If ebay knows something is wrong with the bidder, why won't Paypal take their banning into consideration and deny the chargeback?? Aren't they supposed to be the same company, after all??

I had a similar problem with a buyer (possible "unauthorized funds") a few months ago, with this twist- my buyer was also a seller. PayPal thought that he (my buyer) had been paid with "unauthorized funds" for one of his auctions, but since he didn't have any money in his PayPal account, they took back the money he had already paid me.

Eventually, they (PayPal) figured out that nothing was amiss and put the money back in my account, but for some reason, they never bothered to let me know- I found out about it from my buyer.

I am at wits end with Pay Pal over presale restrictions they placed on my account October 29th. I am unable to make any payments whatsoever.

All 4 of my bidders have received their AGE sets- All left positive feedback - and I am still waiting for Pay Pal to release my funds and restrictions on my account.

Meanwhile, they're saving interest on $17,000 for several weeks now!

I will not use Pay Pal again in the future for any high priced items.
    HAPPY COLLECTING!!!
