Does anyone know if there are plans to update the Noyes Large Cent books?

Does anyone know? I think that the most recent editions are 1992 and 1995 (if I am not mistaken). Does anyone know if any updates are in the works, or are these editions adequate and there are not been many significant changes since those years in this series?

  • Hi, I found this on the net. Hope it helps. My apologies to whoever I took this from without permission :

    The E-Sylum: Volume 9, Number 27, July 2, 2006, Article 4

NOYES 1793-1794 LARGE CENT BOOK BEING PRINTED

Jon Lusk writes: "I've just OK'd the final draft of the new
1793-1794 Large Cent book and it should be printed, bound, and
ready for shipment by the first part of August. It turned out
quite nice in full color. The printer upped the normal image
resolution and it helped when looking at the pictures under a
three-power glass. 416 pages was a lot of material to go through,
but (as all publishers hope for) all errors have been caught."

Jon forwarded the ad for the book from the latest issue of EAC's
Penny-Wise. "United States Large Cents 1793-1794" by William C.
Noyes is in 8.5 x 11" hardbound format.

The price after July 1, 2006 is $195 plus $10 mailing
Pre-order by July 1 and save $35 ($25 on the price and $10 postage)

Send your check for $170 to: Jon Lusk, 1111 W. Clark Rd.,
    Ypsilanti, MI 48198. Inquiries to Jon@Lusk.cc (734-484-4347)

NOYES 1793-1794 LARGE CENT BOOK BEING PRINTED

This is not an update to the 2 Noyes references, but rather a new work dedicated to 1793-94 Large Cents. I believe that this work will incorporate Jon Lusk's (and others) extensive work on tracing and documenting all known examples of every variety. There's a database complete with images that can be purchased, but it is into the 4 figures in terms of cost.........although well worth it if you have the money.
  • There have been no new varieties discovered since 1991 for the early dates, and no new ones since 1822 N-14 in the middle dates which has been quite a while so there shouldn't be much in the way of new information variety wise except maybe some new die states. Naturally the Condition census keeps changing but he has published two other works that update those. I doubt if he will be updating the books.

The 1793-94 book mentioned is a photographic version of the condition census with high quality images of the top 15 to 25 known specimens (or all known specimens for the rarer varieties) for every variety for those two years. Other years will probably come later.

    1794 NC-10 and NC-11. 1796 NC-7 was also rediscovered.
