I don't know what to do!! (another 20th Anniversary thread)

OK, so I was out of town the last few weeks. The mint's website says that they sent my AGE sets (USPS to my PO box) on October 7, and my ASE set on October 13. I never received an e-mail from the mint about the AGE sets shipping, but I DID receive one about the ASE set shipping. When I got to my PO box today, there was one package waiting for me. The tracking number on the label is NOT the one that my e-mail says is the ASE set, but the stamps all over the box say "October 13."

When you send something through the PO via Registered Mail, they stamp every seam and tape edge to prevent tampering. And since I want the 20th Anniversary designation, I can't open the box to see what's inside.

So, most likely this is my two AGE sets (fyi the box is 11x6.5x5 inches). But now I'm wondering where my silver set is. If it shipped 2 weeks ago, it should have gotten here by now. And if the box is actually my gold sets, why did the Mint say it shipped on the 7th, when it actually shipped on the 13th?

And how hosed am I gonna be if I send a box with 3 silver coins to PCGS, while telling them that it's actually 6 gold coins?image

Oh well, I guess I'll just repackage this thing and send it off to PCGS and see what happens!

On the package label affixed to the box, there is a code. If you see A12, it is your GAE sets. If the code is A1, it is your SAE sets.

Smoewhere on the box there should be an invoice with a number that matches with either your AGR or ASE order number. You should be able to determine if it's your AGE's or ASE's from that.

Mine were ordered at the same time, so this will not help...but the tracking number that the Mint emailed you will be on the shipping label, too.

Thanks for the help, everyone, but it's no good. Maybe if I'd had it shipped Fedex, there would be more indicators, but it was shipped registered mail via USPS. There is no A1 or A12 on the packaging, and no invoice info. Just the Red USPS label. The only thing that gives me hope is that a) the tracking number is NOT the one that was in the ASE e-mail I got and b) it seems like an awfully large box for just one set of silver coins. In my experience, the Mint packages its shipments very tightly.

Of course, my buddy suggested that maybe they shipped the ASE and 2 AGE sets in one box. Which would explain why I only got one box...

Oh well, I'll send it off to PCGS and let them tell me what they find! ;-)

Is there a way to see what it was insured for?? I there an amount of postage paid ??

2 ASE set would only be $200 and they might not of even shipped those Register. ASE can be sent regular mail insured.

  • You need to make friends real quick with an X-Ray technician. I bet my left nut that for $25 you could go to your local veterinarian, explain your situation in simple terms, and he'd take an x-ray for you.
Everything I write is my opinion.

    Looking for alot of crap.
  • How'd you get them shipped Registered Mail instead of FedEx? I'd rather the mint sent my packages that way -- I'm not a fan of FedEx.

I had 'em shipped to my PO Box. I'm out of town all the time, and generally only home on weekends. When I HAVE to do Fedex, I have stuff shipped to my buddy's store, although that's caused problems, too (although generally it just takes a drive down to Marina Del Rey to pick up the package). BUT, Fedex will only hold it so long. The stuff was delivered on 10/16, and would have been sent back already if it hadn't gone USPS.

Problem solved. It turned out that I was gonna be home (LA) today, so I drove down to Santa Ana, for the monthly walk-in. They let me open the box right there (visions of George in "Seinfeld" were running through my head...remember when he tipped the sandwich guy, but the guy turned away and missed it? "What do you mean that box was sealed? *I* didn't see it!!"). So I was able to ogle the coins, and take the cases back with me when I was done. Saved myself four bucks for shipping, too!

And then, this afternoon, when I went to my PO box, there was my silver set, waiting for me...

-They'd probably slab them as gold coins.

I just got the e-mail from PCGS. I had two submissions: the 2 AGE sets, and two Indian half-eagles. The submission for the half-eagles says there were two coins, but the AGE one says zero coins. Hmmm
