Lincolns and lighting

I am trying different lighting and getting dramatically different results. Photo on left was done with a fiber optic ring light and one on right with a 3-bulb halogen setup. The ring light gives a diffused look but little luster, while the 3-bulb over-emphasizes luster. What do people prefer?

personally, I prefer the halogen. Luster is important. steve

Halogen. If you feel the lustre is over emphasized, increase the distance of the lights from the subject.
