Artificial toning - you can't always tell when it is real or not. Many debate whether a given coin is AT or not, and many say they don't care, as long as it looks pretty. Many people could never tell the difference, and more importantly, there is a grey area between naturally toned and helped or allowed, and then expedited.
Why not just go the next step and do something artistic to make it even mor beautiful? In other words, what is the difference between putting a coin in paper, a potato, heat, or whatever, over some period of time to allow it to colorize ... and doing it in a one hour step artistically done and gorgeous?
There is nothing natural about many of the coins I see selling for a lot of money due to their colors. The idea that coins just get like that laying around seems silly, so, why not go the next step and cut to the chase?
