Is grading of GAE necessary

At this point First Strike and other designations expired. Is it
economically necessary or advisable to have two (2) opened
sets of GAE graded? Do you think it increases or decreases their
value? Regards, Michael

Not necessarily. If sealed, the coins may still be eligible for the designation if the receipt is dated prior to the cutoff.

If you score 70's it would increase their value even without the designation.

Sure, because if your coin has no visible blemishes instead of one tiny one you need magnification to see, its "value" will probably triple.

I sent in 2 sets and got (2) 70 outta 6 coins. I was originally going to keep 1 set mint sealed, but since a perfect set is going for near $15k you can bet your sweet heiny that this 3rd set is going in also. I still need a pr70dcam to make a set of 70's. Of course I am hoping that this set will be all perfect 70's. Here's hoping.

  • Not necessarily. If sealed, the coins may still be eligible for the designation if the receipt is dated prior to the cutoff.

According to PCGS Customer Service, the box must have been sent and postmarked by the 24th. The receipt inside has no bearing on first strike unless the sealed box is sent by the 24th which has already passed.

If I were you I would put the sealed sets on Ebay if you still want to make a good profit, because people are still paying a premium for them, assuming wanted to sell them.

  • sigh.......

If the coins are in the original sealed mint packaging and the post mark from the fulfillment center is on or before the cut off date you can still receive the designations. If you have opened the packages and the cut off date is past, you can not get the first strike.

  • Though you may not be able to qualify for first strike, if it still in the original mint packaging unopened, you still qualify for 20th anniversary designation on the set. which still has some value to it
  • post mark from the fulfillment center is on or before the cut off date

PCGS must be giving out different info. I'll have to call them back because I was told the sealed box had to be postmarked regardless of what the receipt inside says.

Regarding these sets we are going by the postmark.

Are you referring to the customer invoice in your package? If so, we are not going by the date ordered or the date the invoice was printed, we are only going by the date shipped.

I am planning to keep my one AGE set sealed (date 10/10 postage) till a later date, if I want to send it at a later time; can I still get the FS designation provide the box is still sealed?

Is there a time limit? .....like a year or 2 years?

    Thanks in advance,

    SNMAN

From my understanding, there is no time limit ever,as long as the postmark from the mint is 10/24/06 or before, however they may no longer produce the 1st strike/ 20th anniversary set inserts.
