I have a 62 Proof set also that is toned, but not AT ALL that evenly colored. The half, quarter, and dime are red based with all kinds of different colored speckled splotches all over them. I think someone tried to seal the set back up with an iron, and the heat caused it. It was one of those "UNOPENED PROOF SET" deals off eBay.

I scanned them and unfortunatley my scanner is not as accurate as I would like. I matched the image to the actual shade of the coins. They do look like photoshopped or juiced pictures but they are very accurate.

I've seen a couple of 62 proof sets with similar toning before. In fact I have one, only the cent has carbon spots. I'm keeping an eye out for a single nicely toned 62 proof cent so I can have a nice matching set and put them into a capital plastic holder.
Next time you go to the coin store in Pineville ask them if you can look through their little toner box. The owner puts raw toners in there and brings them out only when people ask about them. Usually most are too dark for my tastes but sometimes they have some really nice ones in there.
I have 25 or more sets just like it and while many of the coins are butt ugly a few are nicely toned... but the toning is a very heavy finish which PCGS calls environmentally damaged. I sent the best of the best in with an additional set which was in the mint package to prove originality, and these came back body bagged as "environmental damage." The good news is the nickels are all a wonderful blue color and the toning is not the same heavy finish. PCGS graded the nickel proof 67. Want to buy more sets???
I have bought and sold several unoppened Proof sets similar to what you purchased. I believe the coins to be NT as it appears yours our but I would agree that someone could have stored them in a hot environment which helped the toning. Some are market acceptable and some are not...
I had a set with a Burgundy and Blue Quarter and half that were stunning......NGC bagged them the first time even though they were in the original sealed cello. I sent them back in for a review and they graded the second time around. Not sure if that means they were 100% NT, but I felt they looked legit and or at least market acceptable.
I wonder what made the dime not tone. Any takers? I would imagine, all things being equal, that the dime would look just like the other two silver coins.

I wonder what caused the one coin out of 5 tone like that.

<< <i>Nice hints of green toned mixed with the deep red. I like the fact that is in the original celo so there is no dispute as to its originality.
Where did you find these?
