Believe it or not, I just got a new 2006 nickel this past weekend

Sorry for the lame post, but I had not received in change yet the new 2006 nickel until this past weekend (picture below). It's amazing that I could go almost an entire year after they are issued before I got one in circulation. The same thing happened with the 2005 designs. To this day, I very, very rarely get the 2005 versions in my change. In case you are interested, I received the 2006 nickel as part of the change at a McDonalds in Danbury, CT on Saturday after purchasing two chicken McNugget Happy Meals™ and one hamburger Happy Meal™ image

I would guess that with the nickels now containing more than 7c worth of metal there
is starting to be a drawdown from FED stocks. You may see a lot more of these in the
coming weeks as the mint strains to meet rising demand.

  • I'm impressed, so far since the end of 2002 I'm at 2 2003 P, 1 2004 P Peace medal, 1 2004 P Keelboat, and 1 2005 P Ocean in View. No 2006 nickels yet. That is a total of 5 post 2002 nickels in 4 years, so you are probably doing better than I am. (I also track 1997's. So far in 9 years I've found 14, 7 from each mint. Everything else from 1995 to 2002 shows up frequently.)

I will only add "Mazel Tov" on the acquisition and that you should not be purchasing that crap at McDonald's. image
  • Wow, it looks like I'm the only one here to have been getting the 2006 nickels for at least a couple of weeks now.
I think the first time was at my company's cafeteria

    cha-ching!!!
    Many happy BST transactions
  • I get these all the time, as well as the other commemorative nickels. What's up? Am I hoarding them ALL? Surely that can't be... I don't live close to a mint, nor do I search rolls, etc. for them. What gives?

  • Yikes I live in the sticks, sorta, sign at the end of my street says 90 miles next services!! In the mojave desert and I have gotten lots of the 2006 nickles. In fact way back went to the bank and got 10 rolls.

Of course there are 4,000 marines that live in my town of 29 palms, calif. So that may make a difference? You know down time playing cards for nickles or something.

I still have not seen any of this year's nickels in change yet either.
