My guess is that upwards of 99% of the so-called second chance offers received by ebayers are NOT legit. That has certainly been my experience; I have received numerous offers but never a real one.
I use the second chance often, both buying and selling.
I just never use the links supplied in e-mails when I'm offered something. It's always safer to to copy and paste the auction number and then go to Ebay.
after getting outsniped two days ago, i was very happy to get a second chance offer. i think the seller had more than one, and the best part was, i got mine cheaper than the actual winning bidder !
I recently had a second chance offer just HOURS after the auction closed. This tells me that I was being shilled. Even though I wanted the item, I did not respond. A second chance offer can be legitimate if it makes sense. In other words, the winning bidder did not pay after a reasonable time period and the seller offers it to the underbidder(s). Maybe it was a spoof second chance offer? I don't know, but I am always cautious.

I've never heard of a confirmed fake one in your my messages. Are you repeating what you've heard 3rd hand or have you seen one?
It could be possible to get a scam one in your eBay My Messages if smoeone has had thier account hi-jacked! I have bought two coins from 2nd chance offers, but both times I new the seller and e-mailed them outside eBay to make sure it was legit!

I did email the seller before I accepted the offer to be on the cautious side.
