Wife of Noe dangled tape of '04 roast; 2 top Democrats spoke with her, attorney

COLUMBUS - In the months leading to her husband's trial on felony charges that he stole from the rare-coin funds he managed for the state of Ohio, Bernadette Noe held out a tantalizing prospect for Democrats.

It was the videotape of Tom Noe's 50th birthday party roast - a tape that could launch 30-second TV attack ads against GOP candidates like so many shells from a cannon.

The event, held Aug. 24, 2004, at the Holland Gardens dining hall as a fund-raiser for the Lucas County Republican Party, starred U.S. Sen. George Voinovich, Gov. Bob Taft, Auditor Betty Montgomery, and Attorney General Jim Petro - all reminiscing about Tom Noe with a blend of humor and seriousness less than a year before scandal erupted.

    Gee isn't ( wasn't ) Noe a coin dealer?

Why oh why would someone open this thread just to whine and complain?

Ok for those who didn't understand it either.
    Noe was a coin dealer
He was in charge of $50,000,000 of rare coins.
    He stole $2,000,000 of them.
4 guys from a Toledo Ohio newspaper who clearly failed Journalism 101 write a looong rambling confusing disoriented babble about it titled something like "Wife of Noe dangled roast tape in front on 2 top Democrats."
I think it said she tried to blackmail 2 Democrats to get her husbands case thrown out by telling them she had stuff on a tape from a birthday party that would hurt a lot of political careers.
She showed the tape to a guy.
She wouldn't let him watch the whole tape or take notes.
    On the tape was a:
    1. A sorority sister telling childhood stories about Noe.
    2. Smoebody jokingly calling Noe an adviser to a mafia don.
People at the party told reporters they couldn't recall much of what was said.
Noe pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 27 months in prison.
    That's about it.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

I typically don`t follow politics but, must admit the Democrats in Ohio are having a field day thanks to Tom Noe. In the media, Tom Noe is depicted as " The Artful Dodger " and anybody that is associated with him is guilty of something. Nothing new in that tactic but, seems to be working in giving some a tarnished reputation especially with respect to Gov Taft. The article has little to do with coins and alot more concerning who is going to keep their jobs at election next month. It will be interesting to see if it works. image

Maybe they can get LA's Jefferson to pay back some of the money for Noe with that COLD HARD CASH hidden in his freezer?

I understood it perfectly. I can understand how a person could get confused if they haven't been following the case closely.

Selling a tape for political purposes seems coin related to me. Money is involved. Anything any coin dealer does at any time in their life should be allowed to be discussed on this forum.
