I assume the Stack's (ANR) Norweb sale is pretty significant--how significant?

I took a look at the new QDB Dave's Notes, and I was struck by the comment in the last paragraph. I know that the Norweb collections in the past have been pretty signficant, but does anyone know how significant this upcoming collection is? Was this catalog truly one of the most interesting that QDB has ever worked on? How about the rest of the staff at ANR? What additional procedures/research needed to be done to get this catalog finished? Will any "discovery coins" come out of this sale?

October 13, 2006

Welcome to the latest edition of my Notes. The past week or so has been busy. I have been in Atlanta at the headquarters of Whitman Publishing, then at the Atlanta Coin & Collectibles Expo. As might be expected, Whitman headquarters is as busy as a beehive, with well over a dozen book projects in the works. A small advance shipment of my Obsolete Paper Money Issued by Banks in the United States 1782-1866 book arrived, and I was delighted to see the finished quality. I have been advised that the main shipment will be here in about a month, at which time all of the orders on hand here in Wolfeboro will be sent. I am sure you will be as delighted with it as I am. If you haven’t signed up for a copy, you might want to do so now. See our offering of books for sale.

Also fresh, and in distribution for slightly over a month, is the brand new A Guide Book to Washington and State Quarters, which has been drawing many nice comments. If Washington quarters are of interest to you, you will enjoy having a copy. The economies of scale practiced by Whitman make it possible to deliver high quality books at prices that are significantly lower than would otherwise be the case.

The Atlanta Expo was very interesting. Sponsored by Whitman, no effort was spared to make it as inviting and friendly as possible. Although the convention was modest in scale (with about 2,200 registrants), it was large in terms of enjoyment and camaraderie. I had the chance to talk with many collectors and dealers, always enjoyable, and to give two talks or seminars—one on coin market cycles and the other on the history of the American Bank Note Company.

Back home in Wolfeboro the brilliant fall foliage season is upon us, with lots of visitors in town, cameras in hand. We have all been very busy putting the finishing touches on our Norweb Collection Catalogue for November—over 500 pages, and certainly one of the most interesting auction catalogues I have ever participated in—quite a statement considering the illustrious past!

All good wishes.

Sincerely,

Dave Bowers

My understanding is that the pioneer gold is not Norweb's.

You're right, now that I read the information on the site, again. I will edit my thread title! Thanks!

I'm not sure what this would be. Most likely not mainstream US coins which I believe were all sold
quite a while ago at auction. I know the Norwebs also collected non US coins so maybe this is
what they are selling. Most likely it is something esoteric in nature.

Had to edit the title yet again (I should not try to do two things at once).

I have to wonder if the 'Norweb' is a typo. Why have 'Archangel' on the cover if Norweb is the lead consignment? image

Doesn't look like it's up at all yet, unless they've changed their numbering system. I can't find it.
