I went to the world's smallest coin show on Saturday
There was a show advertised in Kalamazoo, Michigan this Saturday, so I decided to check it out. It was held at the Clarion. When I arrived, I walked through the hotel but I could not find the show; no signs or people or anything that you would usually see at a coin show. So I walk up to the front desk and ask the manager if this was the Clarion hotel, which he confirmed that it was. By now I am thinking that I got the dates wrong. I asked him if they had a coin show at the hotel today and he said, "yes, it's right there", as he pointed to a room right off of the cafe in the lobby. It was an empty room. Well......sort of. There were three dealers in the room. Actually, there were three tables and one was attended by a coin dealer's wife.
I did a quick walk through (literally 30 seconds) and determined that only one dealer had anything of interest. Luckily this table was attended by the coin dealer's wife. I picked out some coins that I was interested in and waited until the dealer returned from whatever he was doing (probably a nap in his car). When he returned, I got some prices, bought a few things, then split. I was probably there for only 30 minutes or so, but it was still fun to me. Better than nothing! The moral of the story: a small coin show is better than no coin show. In fairness to the coin show promoter, there were a couple of competing shows that weekend, not to mention the Tiger's game and a UM game.
Anyway, I did manage to buy a few little things. I will post images of the coins in a week or so.
Well, that's it. This was just a bit smaller than the FUN show or the ANA, but I still had a lot of fun. Gotta love coins!

Glad I missed it - you probably got the only coins worth buying.
And you are right, a small show is better than no show. I have found some of my finest cherry picks in shows with less than 25 tables.

Does that Indian have a clip?
I like the '34 DDO. I've been able to cherry those before. And, yes, you have the REAL one, too.
Congrats!

Yes indeed!
Heh, that sounds amusing. Were there other buyers there or just you and the dealer's wife?
I saw 2 other people straggle in and quickly leave. Truly the smallest show I have ever attended, but I still had a good time.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
They have always had it at the fairgrounds, though.
I knew about this show, but I don't know who put it on.
Somehow, I can't believe it was the club.
It sticks in my mind the Kalamazoo fall club show is the first week in Nov.
You do need to come to Muskegon Saturday the 28th, for the Muskegon Coin Club's fall show, there'll be around 30/35 dealers, with about 45 tables.
It's held at Roberts Hall on Old Grand Haven Road.
I was Muskegon Coin Club Secretary and Bourse chairman for around a dozen years.
A lot of the sellers are club members, and at this and the spring show, are the only times you'll see their offerings.
