eBay Possible WARNING: eBay Seller: davidhallcoinspcgs

RampageRampage Posts: 9,662 ✭✭✭✭✭
Just thought I would let everyone know of a new eBay seller. He/She is selling an 1893S Morgan, an 1885 Liberty Nickel, and an 1897 proof Morgan. I do not know if the seller is legit or not, but it appears to me that he/she is using a well-known name to sell coins. I wonder if some of the coins exist. I wonder if David Hall can/will comment on this.

At first, I wondered if it might just be HRH. One look at what the seller calls a DMPL and I know it is not David.

I do know if I was HRH, I would be steamed and probably not be inclined to send a simple cease and desist. This is abusing a hard-earned good name. In the event the seller just happens to have the same name, as it is common enough, he most likely has no affiliation with PCGS and he is selling raw coins not PCGS slabs even. Man, I wonder if the guy even understands how big his b***s are using that name.

Oh and free shipping, no paypal, Iowa location, zero feedback. Hmmm......

That was an obvious tip-off about a scammer. Of course, the name David Hall is not all that uncommon, so it is possible that someone named David Hall is going to sell coins graded by PCGS. imageimage

I actually like the fact that some people in Iowa got together and hatched this plot. They are going to make a KILLING on that AG 1911 nickel. The bidding is already up to TWICE face value.

What a crock! Not only is the "93-S" an 1884, but the 1885 nickel is 1890something. I suppose HRH could come down on him like a ton of bricks or make like a cat and play with the mouse before he kills it. Seller reported for misleading auctions.

I am curious about something - does the member name (in this case it incorporates PCGS) have any
effect on searches? In other words, if someone had PCGS in their name, when someone searched
for auction title and descriptions, would it impact on that? Probably not, but I thought I would ask.

So as you can see, eBay was clearly wrong on this. This user was legit and was removed because we all rushed to conclusions! I think we all owe Mr. Hall an apology.

Do you really think David Hall would be selling raw altered coins on eBay?

He owns davidhall.com? Just digging that pit deeper as he most certainly doesn't unless he is saying he 0wnz it in the hacking sense.

I remember reading somewhere once that it was PCGS policy for employees of PCGS to not buy and sell PCGS graded coins because it could pose a potential conflict of interest. I guess they are thinking the employees could manipulate the pops for their own financial game or something like that. Would this include David Hall? Sorry if it's a dumb question, I'm still fairly new to the hobby and I have no idea if David Hall is also a dealer or not.

Regardless, that eBay seller was obviously a joke.

This is a "misconception". David Hall buys and sells PCGS graded coins quite publicly. And the employees at PCGS have been seen on eBay regularly bidding on the very coins that they grade and/or attribute. While I wholeheartedly agree that this is a MASSIVE conflict of interest, I'm not the guy making the rules, I'm just a wannabe trying to stay in the game. image

I guess ebay is not as bad as some of you implied. They have already removed his listings, and marked him as a no longer registered user. Keep up the good work ebay!
