Wierd email from scotsman auction??
I just got a wierd email from Scotsman auction co. asking me to order some Canadian coins from the Canadian mint today and send them to them and make $40. Canada is coming out with a new commemmorative of some kind with a mintage of only 5000. If these are supposed to be so good why give out the information?? - If i buy them i will keep them--Should i thank them for the advice or sell them to them and make the $40.00??.I have never recieved an email like this before. Has anyone else gotten this email??Thoughts??

Hard to tell. Canada issues a tremendous number of commemorative coins in various offers of proof, mint
sets, colorized etc. each year. A lot of them are for events of dubious historical importance IMO but to a
student of Canadian history maybe they are a big deal. My guess is the usual speculation will take place
with a quick runup in prices and then a decline as expected.
One of my all time favorites is the one for the 55th anniversary of the Canadian oil industry. 55th? well it
appears that the 50th anniversary slipped by without anyone noticing and they still wanted a coin so
on the 55th they decided to issue it.
Oh ya, we have only made an offer like this one other time - just before the Buffalo Silver Dollar Commemorative was issued.
No worries

Personally, I do not think that there is anything to be offended. If you want to buy the sets and flip to Scotsman and make $40, fine. If you want to use the information and speculate on the sets, also fine. If you want to delete the mail (or ignore the thread here), again, fine.
Mark (BigBuffaloGuy) is relative newbie here and did not understand the protocol for this. Scotsman is a well-established coin firm and will undoubtedly make good on their offer.
When I called to order my two sets, the customer service rep volunteered that all of her orders today were from St. Louis!

Edit: Below is the email I received:
Scotsman Auction Company is paying $130 for a coin that you can begin ordering tomorrow (Friday, 10-13-06) at 8a et. for $109.95 by CALLING the Canadian Mint at (800) 268-6468. We need you to help us acquire this coin because, like the U.S. Mint, there is a limit on the amount you can order -- in this case 2 -- and we think this coin is going to be a real winner. Only 5,000 total are being issued, so the closer to 8 o'clock you can call the better. Here is what to order: Two 2006 Enameled Coin - "Medal of Bravery." It will cost $109.95 each plus shipping. Once you receive both coins, ship them to us. We will promply send you a check for all your costs (including reasonable shipping charges) plus an extra $20 per set you send us. Pretty simple....
The RCM www.mint.ca does not currently have any info on this coin on their website, but that will likely change tomorrow.
Thanks for the help

Obviously, Scotsman thinks so or else they wouldn't be offering multiples of the issue price to get around the per-customer limits.

And $40 rich total, as they are apparently limited to 2 per customer.
Looks like those who see potential in them and cannot get more than their quota are desperate to get as many as possible secondarily.

I know all you people who ordered 10 AGE sets love it, though...

There's no question about that. But, I hate spammers. I get buried in spam every day even with the filter in place.

<< <i>I ordered 2 also. I figured Scotsman is a reputable outfit as I have bought some coins from their auctions and was satisfied with them. When I get them, I'll get a look at them and then decide whether to flip them for the $40 profit or keep them. >>
I don't see them, just the normal ones and a limited first day quarter.

Anybody have any idea about the coin and what it will do... Thanks
Today I looked at the coin because of this thread. Personally, I would not want this dark side coin, doesn't do a thing to impress me. Thankfully, I don't need to go through this maneuver with Scotsman just to make $40. I have been pleased with the two auction lots I won from Scotsman.
