    Baley,

That's an interesting question, but I want to make sure I understand it -- are you referring to toning that is deep in the fields, but hardly at all on the devices?

Question Baley- The fields look shiny or glazed in the first set of pics--Does it look that way in hand?

I was just making light of the recent "how does a [coin] tone like this?" threads.

Both these quarters are stone cold original, imo, toned by time and circulation, and haven't been messed with since.

The fields tone while the high points continue to wear thus preventing them from toning. By the time the coin is removed from circulation, toning in the fields has a head start.

    Time and Environment, my friend....

you got yourself some good ole natural cameo toning....

i noticed this series has a copper coloured (feel like being British today) tinge to them, rather than a silverish one...

I can forgive a couple of contemporary test marks for a coin in this grade... particularly if it's an R5
