any ideas about the recent decline in gold/silver/plat medals?

what is causing this?

what happens after gold hits $542/oz?

why do prices seem to be heading straight down?

    A combination of things -

    1) Manipulation
    2) Decline in oil prices
    3) Manipulation
    4) Peace in the Middle East
    5) Manipulation

In my humble opinion there are only 2 times you need to worry about market swings.

    1. your very first purchase (nice to not get a bad taste in your mouth starting out)
    2. the day you sell everything

all other market tanks should be viewed as buying opertunities, if the price is too high don't buy.....

If you have to ask what's too high? don't buy, instead reasearch......

World Central Banks are selling right now before there yearly contracts expire on Sept 26. It will stabilize after that.
When central banks sell they dump tonnes of Gold at a time and someone is buying that Gold. The bull is still intact.

Reduced tension in the middle east is the major contributor.

    Inflation's not a problem.
    The US economy is fine.
Money is rotating into Technology stocks.
Money market interest rates are more attractive than buy and hold gold.
People are selling metals in response to being clobbered in the Energy sector.
Hedge fund(s) go bankrupt and the wheels come off the commodities sector.

well it is after sept 26 so the world banks should be done selling, yet the metals are still dropping.

Yeah the ol' 9/26 thing didn't play out too well.

What is going on here is that droves of people who got on the gold wagon late are now going "oh darn" at their 20% losses and they're selling to stop the bleeding. Is the bull intact? Might be. Might not, too. Risk/Reward is not favorable, IMO, but each person determines that differently.

"Reduced tension in the Middle East," "Peace in the Middle East"?

    What?

Did I miss something? I do not see much of either.

The decline in oil may be part of it, these markets have to be controlled, but I do not know how. I don't know if anyone really understands how the metal market is manipulated. I think it is though.

IMHO----The demand for gold by the jewelry industry probably sets the base for gold prices.

Metals will continue to follow oil, which is down, down, down.

Imh what investors need to looks at is Supply and Demand fugures, if you can find anything remotely accurate.
The short and Med term has/is driven by Dollar,Oil,Etc..Political BS,etc..hence the wild flucuations.

    But..

The real overall trend Imo will be up because of true S&D factors.

Imo gold will bust $800 and silver will bust $15 mark again and probably higher.
When? I suspect before 2007 is over they will run again..
Again, thats my opinion, if I only knew for sure Id be a rich man, but thats my call and Im sticking to it..

gold declines so the medals also go down as most all of the value in in the metal

and with the drop in gold prices these medals also have mucho less demand fro the general numismatic buyer

conversely when gold hit 725 an ounce everybody and his brother were buying and then just to get this precious yellow metal bought anything in sight for strong prices it is like a synergy when gold is spikeing upwards the general num ismatist and public get into the act and create more demand

so buy when everyone is selling and sell when everyone is buying

Coinage and Bullion sales are one of the smallest part of the overall demand and usage of Gold&SIlver. The highest demand for physical comes from Industry. Actual supply/demand of physical metal is where I see a bullish long term mkt., particulary in Silver.
