So, you guessed it, I go to the US Mint site to behold the design that is supposed to be ion the 2007 Jameston 400th Anniv Commem coin. Its a let down, you would think for the 400th Anniv, there might be just a little more effort in the overall design?

The mistake is expecting any effort at all.

<< <i>To be the devil's advocate, let me ask you what it is you think of when you think of the Jamestown colony? What imagery would you propose? I would think it would be hard to depict starvation and struggling to survive on a coin. I recognized the church on the five dollar coin immediately, as well as the ships and the persons. Maybe they should picture the well on one of the coins, they are still digging artifacts out of that hole still.

Isn't the well at "Carters Grove" which is actually a different and earlier settlement than Jamestown?
No interest in purchasing these coins.....
Still have not decided on any of the SF comm coins, I see sales are exactly thru the roof.....
The designs and projects they have in line for the next few years are absolutely terrible design wise or projects without any collector interest.....

It's on the far side of the church and was also the site of a Civil War gun battery.
