Everyone says to buy on the dip-- are you doing anything differently in today's supposed dip in pric

Everyone (even dealers, incredibly) are saying that prices for certain issues have dipped and now presents a buying opportunity that has not occurred in years. For those that collect the series whose prices are supposedly lower today, is your quantity or frequency of purchases any different? I would think not, especially if someone is a collector and buys choice coins at reasonable prices, and is even willing to strectch when a really nice coin comes along. What do you think?

My chosen series (southern gold half eagles) do not appear to be affected much by "the market". When coin prices ran up, these coins slowly walked up. Now that some series are under pressure, nice coins are as hard as ever for me to find and expensive as ever to buy. Some really nice coins just came along. I plan to buy them hand-over-fist...or at least until my money market account runs dry, my wife finds out what I am up to, or I die from the exhaustion of doing so...whichever comes first.

Once we get our albatross of a house sold that we moved away from in July, maybe I will. Until then we're lucky if I can buy a $20 coin every so often.

Coin market dips tend to be of long duration. Don't buy into hype that claims a dip will last only a short period.

Do your own research and come to your own conclusion regarding the state of the market. As I have said many times, take some coins to a major show and try to sell for cash. There is no quicker way to judge the real state of the market.

i think this dip philosopy is more pertanent for precious metals when you are trying to get a low avg cost then for collectable items. it's cousin is the automatic asset builder where you systematically add money to investments over a long period of time in the up and down markets.

even better is to only buy on the dips-

I've seen no dip in prices with my areas of interest.

I have seen prices rise quickly for my series and it seems like a lot of poor material is starting to come out. To me, this indicates a strong market.

There hasn't been any letup in prices in the Seated Quarters.
It's hard to believe coin collecting is in a bear market.

What dip? That being said, I'm still in buy mode for quality coins and am doing nothing differently.

I think that the only area I've seen any signs of a letup is in common date Morgans, and even that is more of a price stall than a real decline so far.
