Anyone see that Mark has 10 1955 Bowman football wax boxes on ebay? What a group box opening that would be. Why being sold as a group? Anyone have the cash?

I think its more advertising. Hes trying to build his name up and get it back into the publics eye. He was the leading unopened seller for the last 10 years until BBCE blew him out of the water in my opinion. Steve came out swinging if you ask me. For the longest time pack dealers were paying way to low of prices for packs. But Steve finally came out with decent offers and got all the stuff. Looks like a come back auction if you ask me.0

I dont think he is actively buying as much as Steve. Steve has shown us what is out there and he buys it.I wish Marks web site would change once in a while and there was fresh merchandise there. It is the same stuff...why go more into the site?0

I don't htink he is planning on selling them , he is just listing them to say "hey look I actually bought something in the last year" . His inventory has been the same with no new merchandise since he moved to California and the stuff that he does get in is either run of the mill or basically not for sale.
I agree with whoever posted that BBCE passed him a while ago. Steve paid aggressive prices to get the inventory and to get the contacts , he has reasonable mark up with a new material constantly coming in and does not have himself on a pedastal and is in tune with the market. no better dealer out there , this recent ploy by the bbckid is jsut another in his long line of I am better than anyone else moves that continues to distance himself from all of the dealers that collectors want to do business with0 -

I moved away from BBKID once Steve came into the game.After i sold 2 boxes of 1951 Red backs to him, which he placed on ebay the next week and sold them for 2x what I did. Then i had a deal where I was selling 1 1/4 cases of 1986-87 Fleer and murphy was nothing but pushy and rude. Pissed me off.I later moved the deal to Dave and Adam which they paid in cash,where much nicer and even meet me. Never again will I sell to murphy. Nothing but rude on the phone.My opinion.0

75k sounds low for a 1952 Topps high # box unless it were 1 card penny packs (if they even made those for the high #s).0

Auction description says Subject to prior sale. What does that mean? Most every box of cards that old had a prior sale. Does he mean that some may be resealed?0

Have you ever called Mark Murphy, 1989FleerRipkenCollectorMan? If memory serves me well [I was only 13 at the time...], but I think Murphy made a lot of money back in the 1989 timeframe with the Bill Ripken error. I was at the Atlantic City Show, I believe, shortly after it came out, and I think Murphy or some other dealer at the show had a xerox copy describing the different errors, variations, before it hit the trade press, etc.I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.0 -

I have never called him about the errors. Honestly I got a bad case from him and never thought much about him since but that is a good idea and well worth a try. Thanks0 -
Murphy had such an enviable business in the 90's. He was a young guy, doing what he loved, doing (I'm guessing) millions a year in revenue.
I guess it was inevitable that someone was going to knock him off from his #1 position.

Murphy's no longer even in the same league for unopened material, and his customer service skills don't measure up to Steve Hart at bbce. His on again/off again involvement with GAI and pack grading and selling was a bit disconcerting to many collectors, too.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.0 -

Based on the past, I will belive that those boxes are legit and contain unopened packs when I see them...until then, publicity stunt all the way. Think about it, unless you have been living under a rock for the past 2 years, if you had this hoard, why not go to Mastro and auction it off. Or sell to Steve Hart?? But on eBay???? I don't think so.0

Rosen and Murphy are just no longer useful to the hobby.
They remind collectors of the decade of greed and self promotion 1988-1998 that ruined the hobby.

True, but isn't Steve Hart involved with the pack grading at PSA?
Steve, though, is not assigning a grade to the pack like Murphy did, he's only determining whether the pack is authentic or not (which is pretty much what he does when you buy raw from him anyway). That's a BIG distinction, as it's the GAI 9.5 & GAI 10 packs that fetch the ridiculous prices on ebay.

Although I have had limited buisness with him, I can't say anything bad about Mark Murphy. I have had more buisness with Steve and find him great to deal with as he seem very straight foward and has a passion for the hobby. I appreciate that. I have also had dealing with Dave & Adam and also find them to be professional and easy to work with.
My reason for posting is I seem to recall a number of years ago that Mark had a significant portion of his inventory destroyed by a fire. I think that alone would have had a devastating effect on his business.

I have always had positive transactions with Murphy. I seem to remember that he had a fire at his warehouse a while back that was the beginning of his fall from the top. But all of my interactions buying and selling have been quite good.I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!

Horrible news out of Connecticut where Mark Murphy, better known as The Baseball Card Kid, resides. Murphy's home-based business was the scene of a terrible fire and while no one was hurt, almost his entire inventory was either burned or damaged by water.
Murphy has been one of the biggest, if not the best known, of the old packs and wax dealers around the country and recently started grading unopened vintage packs. Murphy in a statement said he was thankful to get out alive.
"I thank God both my dogs and I got out safely…it's times like these when you remember what is most important, and that is life itself. Everything we lost is replaceable and that's the lesson to be learned for me."
Murphy was in good spirits considering the circumstances.
"Most packs and boxes are in unopened pack Heaven now."

No, he comes from an extremely wealthy family. his dad was one of my best customers in the early 1990s and had a beautiful collection.

the rumor was that he hadn't updated his insurance policy in years and he was only covered for 100 k or so if memory serves me correct0
