Getting a True Rarity for Free or Saving A Puppy From Being Hit By a Car - What Would You Do?
Let's say that you are faced with this situation.
Let's just say that a major dealer who has just hit the Mega Millions Jackpot of 300 million and is giving away a numismatic rarity as a publicity stunt decides to hold the contest in your hometown. He/she is giving away a <insert coin of dreams here>. You decide to go and have a visit as he/she has your dream coin ready to be handed over to whomever answers this riddle:
I turn polar bears white
and I will make you cry.
I make guys have to pee
and girls comb their hair.
I make celebrities look stupid
and normal people look like celebrities.
I turn pancakes brown
and make your champane bubble.
If you squeeze me, I'll pop.
If you look at me, you'll pop.
Now let's pretend that you know the answer to this (some may) and you dash over to where the contest is being held. You then notice Mark Feld in a full sprint behind you followed by Adrian and Andy Lustig. You know in your gut that these guys know the answer and also know you can EASILY outrun them. As the small herd of Numismatists near the town square where the contest is being held you notice a small puppy in the street that is just sitting there trembling and scared and still too young to get out of the street on it's own.

Just then, you notice a mustang with some chainsmoking teenagers tearing down the street seemingly aiming for the defenseless puppy. You have only a split second to decide whether to save the puppy or win the coin of your dreams. What would you do? Would you give up a 1913 Liberty Nickel? A Pan Pac Octagonal in PCGS MS67? ect. ect. to save the life of the puppy? Answer truthfully.

<< <i>more puppies will be born, no more 1833 LM-5/V10 half dimes will be minted. Sweet, I'm 91/91. Eat puppy guts, losers. >>
Yea, verily (though my coin would be an 1876-CC double dime).
Obscurum per obscurius
I am hoping when Mark, Adrian, Andy, et al pass me as I'm saving the puppy they will recognize I had them beat and at least give me something as they're basking in their <coin of their dream> and I'm holding the puppy.
Gotta save the pup! See sig line

When was the last time one of your coins ran to the door to greet you?
<< <i>Is that a gerbil? >>
So Richard Gere will save the animal, the coin is still mine.
buy the mustang from the kid.
<< <i>When was the last time one of your coins ran to the door to greet you?
When was the last time one of your coins craped on the carpet?

Thats why I don't keep my coins on the floor.

Edited to add: If I went for the coin instead of the puppy, then every time I see the coin, I'd think of the poor puppy.
Run into the town square, methodically swoop down and grab the puppy while you're still running, and beat Mark and Andy and get your 1792 Half Disme.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

I'll have a nice EF 1870-CC Liberty Seated Quarter, please.

<< <i>Aren't puppies made to be crunchy?
Now, if it was a ferret.......
You are thinking of crunchy KELLOGG'S CORN FLAKES. That would make someone a cereal killer.
winter is here
and those yellow bears disapear.
The time has past
as man looks back with a sigh
and a tear in his eye.
As time is held
boys cross their legs
but of course the toilet begs
As time marches on
Girls loose their blush
and swap a comb for their brush
As time passes
For those held high
their end is nigh
As time catches up
Everyone is equal
when we get to the final sequal
As time turns
Without it we have flour and water
With it we have breakfast for my daughter
As time revolves
How does one turn water and wine
into something so fine
As time runs out
The more in a minute you try and squeeze
the less you can do with ease.
As time ticks
All the time that has past
man cannot comprehand something so vast.
BTW I think the answer is "no".
<< <i>O.K. I give up. Anyone know the answer to the riddle? >>
That is a common riddle in college classes. He left off the most important line at the bottom:
" Can you guess the riddle? "
The answer is "No" - you can't guess the riddle. There is no answer to all the individual lines.

My philosophy is this:
I am thankful for what I have and I know there are plenty of people out there that need more than me. Yes, there are other dogs out there, and dogs are euthanized every day, but I can make a choice to save THAT one. It is like the story of the little girl who is walking along the sea shore after a storm swept in. The beach is covered with star fish and the little girl bends down, picks up a starfish and flings it into the ocean. She keeps doing this as the tide starts to go out. An old man walks up to the girl and says there are too many starfish on the beach to make a difference. The girl picks up another starfish and tosses it back into the water and says to the man, "At least I made a difference to that one." I love to tell my kids this story so that they remember that they will have lots of choices to make in life, but when they have decided to do something, have they made a difference and is the world better off because of it.

My 1866 Philly Mint Set
Now an 1802 half dime in AU-55, I'd run the puppy over myself.

Having said that, I'm not quite sure what the point of this thread is...
I was going to say that my agility would allow me to save the pup and get the coin!
