I was not at all pleased about the apparent deficit this year, but Coin World retracted all of that in the last issue.

Yes I am a member. I first joined many years ago; let my membership lapse for other professional interests and rejoined about 10 years ago.
I appreciate the summer ANA courses and the comradship at the CS springs venue, library, bookstore and museum.
I agree that a more scholarly Journal would suit me better but I also realize that many people like a newsy format.
The staff at the summer meeting are terrific and the reception on line and with calls is responsive.
The museum could be improved if exhibits were roatated more often and audio guides created.
The leadership politics have become unpleasant and recent staff change has made the library more profesional but less personal.
The ANA would do well to stem the complaints through ......

All numismatists should belong to the American Numismatic Association.

The benefits far outweigh the cost.

No organizations are perfect, but being a member allows you to have input into the decisions.

I have been a life member since the late 60's, #664 and look forward to being a member for another 60 years!!

Join now, if you are not a member!!
PNG member, numismatic dealer since 1965. Operates a retail store, also has exhibited at over 1000 shows.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

New member as of a few months ago. Didn't everyone see my name in the new member section of the magazine?

Rare Coin Wholesalers was sponsoring a 2 for 1 year sponsorship (maybe they still are) so I gave it a try. So far I've read the magazines and submitted to NGC twice. Other than that I haven't taken advantage of other benefits... yet.

I joined for a 3 year membership in 2004 when I started seriously collecting coins so I can submit coins to NGC (though I haven't submitted any coins lately, I will use them for the first time for my ASE Anniversary Sets though). I probably won't renew it though.

Hmmm...poll's running about 50/50, each side having strong feelings.
Maybe we can put out differences aside & quit squabbling over Modern Crap vs Classic; NT vs AT; toned vs white, the Open Forum, and divide the board into 2 parts: ANA vs non-ANA and bash the L out of each other.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

I find it interesting that half of the folks answering this poll aren't a member of the ANA- and I consider our forumites to be some of the cream of the crop of the collecting community. I agree that the ANA should be salvaged, but it's discouraging that so many collectors don't have good reason to sign up or stay. And in a related thought, who can provide some information on the ANS and its benefits? image

Apparently many top & advanced collectors fail to see any benefit from ANA membership. Notice too that many members joined the ANA only so they could submit coins to NGC for free. The biggest benefit of membership is free Collectors Society membership and for dealers to put the ANA logos in their Coin World ads for cleaned overgraded overpriced junk they pawn off on new collectors.
The ANA needs to be more like a coin club than a commercial dealers club.

Yes, I have been since the age of 10 (almost 20 years now) and will be come hell or high water.

I believe in the mission of the ANA and the membership of the ANA. It's important the organization stays healthy and relevant, and I'll stick around to help make sure that happens.

Hey, wait a second, who's that imposter using my icon? image

To answer the OP's question -- No, I see no value in joining, and since my reintroduction to coin collecting a few years ago my impression of the ANA is less than stellar...Mike
