This is the auction.
Ok, what'd I get?
First is a holed 1857 Flying Eagle cent. The hole is small and it's really not that bad. I should be able to get $5 for it at the coin club.
Next is a corroded 1887 Indian Head cent. Gotta be worth a quarter.
Then there's a 1864 2¢ Piece with the motto worn away. Probably bring me $4 or $5.
Then another 1864 2¢ Piece, with visible motto, the large motto variety. Maybe $6 or $7 bucks there.
Then there's a dark corroded 1869 Shield 5¢. A couple bucks maybe?
Next is another corroded Shield Nickel, this an 1868. I suppose another two bucks or so for it.
Then a dateless type 2 Liberty Standing Quarter, date unknown, couple bucks for the silver content.
Next is another type 2 Liberty Standing Quarter, 1919. I can see over half of the last 9. Maybe get $4 for this.
Last but not least by any means, is the dateless type 1 Liberty Standing Quarter. 1916. Value unknown.
I'll be getting the guy from ANACS to look at this one in November at the Michigan State Show in Dearborn, to confirm the date. The diagnostic characterists of the 1916 seem to check out, but even if by some remote chance I'm wrong, I can still get all my money back selling these.
Altogether not a bad deal.
Edited to add..... a 1942 Mercury dime, maybe 75¢ there as well.

Hi Ray,
Before I read your post I check your ebay link and the first question I had was "is that dateless T-1 a 1916?". Can you post an image? I trust you know what you are doing, so I am sure you are right. You should just send it in now for grading. If it comes back good, then you are looking at about $300-$400 for that one. I found one 2 years ago in a group of about 100 dateless T-1 quarters. Nice score!!!
<< <i>What are the characteristics of the 1916 that would be visible with that level of wear? I seem to recall that the sprig Liberty is holding is different. Any others? >>
The best diagnostic to me is the shape of the lower gown (boxed vs. rounded). Edited to say: also the hair curl at the back of her head. The sprig thing is not a good one to use on low grade 16's.
Wow, if it is a 1916 SLQ that will be a great score. Good luck!

That's an interesting quote from the king of low prices.

No he isn't. This is his hobby and he enjoys it very much. Ray is a real numismatist and very knowledgeable. I think it is fun to deal with these types of lots. Never know what you are going to get and he did score with this purchase!
