    I know your pain.

Already having a 69 '97; I went on a hunt to find a "better" one. Finally did. Side by side it was a MUCH nicer coin. Better strike, absolutely crisp and not a mark even under a 16x loupe. So off it went with what I felt was a lock 69 and a dang good shot at 70.

    Came back 68.

From now on I'm just going to buy my 70's already slabbed. Or for that matter, I've considered sending in both coins and pay up for Presidential Review just to make a point. Maybe 70 is not in the cards; but there is no way in the world that the 69 is a better coin than the 68.

Rant, rant, rant. OK, I feel better.

This can still turn out well. First, you need to find a damp basement to store them in. Perhaps you know someone whose basement flooded recently. The silver should develop subtle rainbow colors over the next 6 months and everyone will forget about the grade.

That is one package I would return and make them review the coins. If you picked the coins no reason for so many 68's.

After reviewing the PCGS price guide and pop reports for these, it is clear to me that PCGS has tightened as the prices has risen. This would make some sense were it not for the fact that there are certainly inferior coins out there in 69 holders (ie. richardshipp's experience).

Cute, but the point would be that some of us would like them to actually look at the coin prior to assigning the grade. That part of the reason that we send the coins to them is because of their reputation for quality grading that we would like to see sustained. To provide feedback from the consumers perspective. To bring to the attention of someone at a higher level that it might be time to revisit the grading room.

Why does everything have to be about money? Does quality not count anymore?

Do you think the grading was especially tough or they had already been cherry-picked.

Have you considered the possibility (remote as it may seem to you) that they DID look at the coins, found something you're not seeing, and DID give you their honest OPINION as to what the coins grade?

and if you send them back and pay them to "look again" then they will POSSIBLY say the same thing?

Or is the only possibility that "they are wrong, and that's that" ? (and if so, maybe you can start your own company that "gives better grades" image

I've never had that problem, every coin I've submitted came back exactly graded like I expected.

There is one little detail I'm leaving out, I never have and never will send a coin in to be graded.......

    Enjoy your slabs.......

I stand corrected. Certainly it is possible maybe even likely that I'm just missing something. Perhaps if your original reply had indicated such I would have thought it through before replying.

Oh gawd, I am so sorry to hear that. Resend/regrade? NGC? What? PCGS hasn't been the greatest in the last two years, IMHO. I am getting a little shakey about them, frankly. They've had *so* much internal fallout, too. I guess NGC is what's left. I really don't know.

68's are worthless, 69's are worth barely more than what a raw coin is worth (doesn't cover the slabbing fees) and 70's are a gold mine.

Personally I thought Marty was smart enough not to submit these. Oh well.
