    Count me in.

Coin looks counterfiet on top of that. Looks cast!

I can't even pay this guy $.01 on the dollar. It would still be overpaying.

That's quite reasonable for a four million dollar coin. Ebay is such a bargain sometimes.

he probably bought it for $10 and thinks he will make a killing.

either that or he is a scammer.

Wrong reverse type, obvious counterfeit. That reverse wasn't used until 1921 and is NOT the parallel feather reverse used from 1879-1904.

I've seen several of these phonies up on eBay recently using the 1921 reverse. I don't know what's going on, but my thought is these
    are recently made.

Looks fake. The "CC" mint mark just doesn't look right.

OK. So he's changed it to $4,000 now but still has the Redbook price as $2500 and bluebook as $600? I don't get it.

I shot seller an e-mail asking: Was this listing price a typo? Would it be improper (ethical) to post his answer here?

Not at all, especially since it seems conclusive that this is a fake based on a reverse from the wrong year. If he's telling you the truth then it is fit for us all. If he is lying to you, then he would lie to us all. --Jerry

Question: Was the listing price a typo?

Answer: actually its not. I did this so no one would bid on this item untill i get it certified by the NGC. this coin is worth around $4000.00 average, it was posted originally at 1200.00 but who's gonna pay that much for a coin that could be a scam? The NGC is going to check every aspect of this coin and verify its authenticy, this costs around $120.00. thank you for you're question.

~shaking head~ I had to read this response several times...but it still confuses me. He has since "updated" his auction ad to say he made a mistake in the listing...but this e-mail just ~clouds~ the issue.

Definitely a D reverse was used for the die model (cast). Another interesting thing about the piece is the date. The counterfeiter will generally choose an 1889-(P) for the obverse die as they are common. For presentation as a circulated piece, an 1889-O works well and cheap too. However, most of the obverse dies for both of those mints (in fact all 4 mints -- they were prepared at Philadelphia for all anyway) have a high 9. The 9 is further from the denticles/rim than the rest of the date. There are a few straighter dates but NONE with the 9 slightly low like on that one. The counterfeiters apparently went through more trouble than commonly necessary in the die preparation, in punching their own date digits and mintmark. If I was to make a guess, this was done offshore in the Orient and they prepared a hub and punched dates and mint marks for several key dates on dies using the same hub. Finding markers like that inner ear and the loose berry (though might be a pit only on that die) above the end of the right wreath could be interesting in correlating to other pieces. I am sure there are 93-S ones out there that look very similar, with that D reverse.

This "Auction" was pre-maturely ended...not pulled, I guess ended by the seller, probably from all the flack and the suttle hints that the coin he was selling was not legit. Another one busted..."What ya gonna do when they come for you?"

    That coin looks all wrong...

    Nice combination though:

    new ebayer
    fake coin
    wrong price
    auction ended early
    poor pictures
    no clue
Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!
