Did you ever find something and say "Where the hell did that come from?"

MadMartyMadMarty Posts: 16,697 ✭✭✭
While cleaning up the mess in the flooded basement, I have made it over to my workspace area. I have a set of cabinets under my workbench and I had some crap stashed away there. I pull out a small suitcase (maybe 12" X 18" X 6") and it is heavy. pick it up and the bottom is wet and falls out. To my surprise tubes of nickels and rolls of wheat cents are now all over the floor! Problem is, I don't remember putting them there! Oh well, CRS strikes again!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Not really. Wasn't that such a nice surprise? I love those kinds of surprises, finding things I apparently socked away in some weird place and forgot I had. I'm 53 and the brain cells are diminishing by the moment, but gawd it's got entertainment value. image

Yes, I have a chocolate brown Mint State 1848 Large cent that just turned up one day in my stuff. I have no idea where it came from, I know I didn't buy it because I wasn't even collecting large cents at the time, and I have never collected the late dates.

And in my case I don't think it's a matter of getting old, it turned up back when I was about 20.

There ya go. That's what I tell my dad, "at least we got 83 good years out of you".

What is especially surprising is finding type coins that you've never seen before. This might be the one best argument for specialization. image

I keep a pretty good list of what's in the safe deposit box. On one visit I found a nice coin that wasn't on the list. I'm certain the tellers heard me say "Holy Crap". Made my day.

Yes it sure is, I've seen a couple of them. Unfortunately mine isn't one of them, it's genuine, and it's a N-1.

I have this very nice CU large 1922 $10.00 payable in gold coin note in my paper money collection and everytime I look at it I try to remember how or when I got it and I always draw a complete blank. It seems like it has always been there. I have accepted that it's mine but it bothers the heck out of me where the heck did it come from.
I can remember every other coin or paper money I got but not this note. I think I'm a good candidate for either Doctor Brothers or the Twilight Zone.

I can vouch not to use Drugs or Alcohol ever, especially before a coin show, because you will find lots of strange coins a couple moths later.image
