Okay, okay, okay ... I'm blatantly stealing this idea from Stone over in the sportscard forum but I'm only doing it because it's a great idea and my favorite thread to read. So Mike, if you're reading this, take it as a tip of the hat.

I've got a bunch of stuff on the way but these two Dixie Lids showed up at my door today. The Duke I got for about 40% less than what I've seen these go for raw (shipping included

) so I was very happy with that. The Brando I probably over-paid a bit but it was the first one I had come across and I'm a HUGE Brando/On The Waterfront fan.

Just wanted to help 'kick-start' Arthur's thread with a couple of scans.

This is one of my favorite sets. A 1934 German set: Garbaty Moderne Schonheitsgalerie ("Modern Gallery of Beauty Series 2). This is a 300 card set, in my opinion, some of most beautiful looking cards in existance!

I just randomly picked-out two from this set to scan.

Ida Lupino ... NICE! On top of directing some Gilligan's Island episodes she was also in a great film called The Big Knife (w/ Jack Palance, Rod Steiger and the incomparable Everett Sloane) that was directed by Robert Aldrich who was a great noir director. She starred opposite Bogie in High Sierra (which was written by the great John Huston and produced by Hal B. Wallis). She put together a nice little career and ended up in B-movies towards the end.

I don't think those Black Hole packs are that rare. I've been snooping around the nonsport corners of the world lately and seem to see a decent amount of those for relatively cheap.

Great idea - I just got a couple things today worth sharing, but, since I'm at the office, I'll share something I got yesterday. This is a Hires Root Beer card that was issued in the same manner as the mid '50s baseball cards. I'm thinking it's the same vintage as well, but I'm not sure:

Just got a batch of over 150 30s German cinema tobacco cards. To be honest, for the price I paid I didn't expect to get anything of any real importance but I was thrilled when I went through them and found 3 Dolores Del Rio and a Marion Davies. Those alone made my purchase price worth it.

I got this about a week ago, 19/20 near set of E49 American Caramel Wild West cards. 10 cowboys including Buffalo Bill, Davy Crockett, Custer & Kit Carson and 10 indians including Sitting Bull, Chief Lone Wolf, etc.

My set is missing the Daniel Boone card.

Thanks - I realized the dinky scan didn't do the set justice - it's crisp and clean with sharp corners throughout.
If PSA ever comes up with a proper holder for "N" cards, which are slightly larger than T206s, I'll send the whole set in to get graded.

More tobacco cards.

Picked up a complete set of 1938 Churchman Kings of Speed. The Owens caught my eye but I was sold when I saw there's a card for filmmaker Howard Hughes. Of course, I think they included him in the set for his avaiation accomplishments and not his films.

Mailman brought these today. The Bogart is a reprint but I got it absurdly cheap and I love Bogart. The Bergman is from the '82 HOF set. I'm curiouus to find out if these both actually have original versions from the 40s or 50s as I haven't seen them for sale yet (part of the reason why I picked up the reprints).

Lee, I don't know about you, but in my opinion a PSA 6 is not good enough. I know I'm only looking at a scan, but even so, it looks really great.

Nice Chaplin - it looks similar to Willard's Chocolate cards. Is that what it is?

Arthur, That was a self-submission (as are about 95% of my movie cards). I purchased this set as it was advertised as superb. When I got it I had to be careful as the cards were almost stuck to each other as the reverse side had adhesive for albums over the print. If you check my registry set, every card was from that same single set. There were only about 4 or so that would not get an 8 or above, so I did not send it in. But the rest, including another 10, were from that set and in top notch condition. Great set with lots of color. All the cards are scanned on the registry set.

I picked up two sets recently, each one consisting of 20 cards.

First one is the 1991 Victoris Gallery "Legends of Hollywood" set. It's a modern set with little monetary value but the card design is beautiful with a great selection of some of my favorite actors/actresses. Here are a few of my favorites ...

The next one was a personal find of great importance, the Cecil Court "Famous Film Directors"

Film directors are my equivalent to others' sports heroes and finding cards of them is damn near impossible. Again, I think the card design of these cards is absolutely beautiful with stunning artwork. These three from the set are my Mantle/Mays/Ruth with the Orson Welles being the Honus Wagner of my nonsport collection. You know what they say ... one man's trash ...

Godfrey Phillips must have made god-awful cigarettes, because some of their sets are much harder to find than the Carreras and Players sets of the day. I like the Dietrich and Del Rio cards; I don't know if I've ever seen that set. Here are two cards, the first and the last cards of the set, from the 1930 Cinema Stars set. I got 27 of 32 a few years ago and I haven't seen a single card since. I wouldn't mind finishing this set.

Arny ... there don't appear to be all that many graded as of yet. The cost is low (5-12) for a nice looking run. There are some that will trend much much higher.

I hadn't seen this thread out for a while, so, here's to keeping it on the board!

Here's probably my toughest Skybird -- the last card. The PSA 1 grade is, I think, due mostly to staining and a bit of paper loss on the back.
